You know it’s mountain grown, that’s the richest kind.
A time and place? Yes, the trash can, and right now.
I did time in a Turkish Prison. The floor was dirt and the COs were crooked, but the coffee was great.
Money for a new coffee maker? Easy.
Step One: Pull out the Solid Gold Braun Filter and clean it out. Toss the rest.
Step Two: Post your Solid Gold Braun Filter on Ebay for whatever they currently go for (best guess; 5x the price of any new coffee maker). Somewhere out there is a sucker who’ll buy it.
Step Three: Ship the filter/ Collect the green
Step Four: Buy your new machine.
Heh. I don’t think I have that model.
I am planning, though, on disassembling it and seeing if a thorough cleaning will bring it back from the dead. We’ll see. And if I find a solid gold filter in it, I’ll execute your plan.
Wow, I used to LOVE perked coffee. I had a lovely little percolator back in the 80’s. They’re hard to find these days though.
What brand of coffee did you use? I don’t even remember what kind of joe I was trying to brew with this here percolator, it was so long ago (and I only used it for a very short time). I usually brew Chock Full O’ Nuts. Not exactly nectar of the gods, but it does the trick.
Like I said upthread, I didn’t like it because it made the coffee too hot and it tasted burnt (here come the Starbucks HATIN’!) If you can suggest a different grind, I’ll try it. Preferably something that can tolerate insanely high heat.
Jeez, it was the 80’s, not sure I remember either. It was probably Maxwell House or something. Of course I LIKE the burnt-coffee taste of Starbucks. Maybe it’s my percolator coffee background. That’s what my mom had when I was growing up.
I use a drip filter single-cup maker these days. Still drink Maxwell House, though, 1 scoop hazelnut, 1 scoop MH BOLD.
My dad has my mother’s big ol’ 30 cup percolator that she’d break out for parties. I thought about grabbing it the other day because we chug a lot of coffee on the weekends, but I don’t have space for it.
The percolator coffee was really good. SmithWife burned her finger on the pot, though, when she tried to unplug it after the brew cycle was over. I’m going to call it DangerCoffee.
I’m not entirely sure why percolators were abandoned wholesale when drip coffee makers came out. Maybe too many fingers were burned along the way.
The last percolator I owned was a mini-percolator that made 4 cups, I think, and did it pretty quickly. Wonder if they still make them? Like I need to drink more coffee. Jeezopete.
I do not know why, but this has had me giggling all morning.
