Here she’s having a little fun with Harry S.
Bogie must have whistled.
A true screen legend.
Sigh. Man, they’re dropping like flies this week.
I’m feeling mighty old.
They don’t make 'em like that anymore…
I love the image of “Bogie and Bacall” meeting up in heaven.
Yeah, as in the closing scene of To Have And Have Not, when they go walking out of the bar, arm in arm, followed by Walter Brennan carrying the luggage with Hoagy Carmichael in the background playing the piano.
My world is coming to a close…
Me too.
Kinda strange to think she outlived him by 57 years.
He was a lot older than her and died young - and she was very young when they met. But yes.
I’ve never been a huge fan of her acting, but I became a admirer of her as a person - I think she had a lot of personal strength and had a good character.
Something I read about on CNN: Bacall was the last survivor of the 24 celebrities named in Madonna’s song “Vogue.”
Before anyone starts claiming that there was some sort of curse, note that (a) 13 of the 24 were already dead by the time the song was released, and (b) of the nine who were still alive, only Lana Turner, who was 74 when she died, didn’t make it to his/her 80th birthday.
well, he was born in 1899 and her in 1924. In terms of age, she outlived him by 31 years though.
I’ve heard a story that when To Have and Have Not was released, audiences snickered when Bacall’s “Slim” Browning said she was 22 years old. No one thought this smoldering, worldly-wise woman with such a huge stage presence looked like she could be 22. Bacall was actually 19 at the time.
I read an article about “How To Marry A Millionaire” and it compared today’s actresses to Twinkies, Ho-Hos and Snowballs. But it said Betty Grable was like apple pie, Marilyn Monroe was like cherries jubilee, and Lauren Bacall was compared to a sharp wedge of key lime pie.
Very apropos. And I don’t think she ever had any ‘work’ done on her face. Anyway - we have lost one of the classic A-listers, after a long eventful life. RIP, dear, and thanks.
What a long and full career! A legend. Goodbye Betty Joan. Thank you.
Aw…crap.
The last thing I remember seeing her in was an episode of The Sopranos, and while she was never a favorite of mine, I always admired her grit.
She was a real dame, and I mean that in the best way possible.
RIP
You mean she was knighted?!
What about Jason Robards? Is he in heaven, too? ![]()
Nobody ever used “Bacall and Robards” in a song!
Let’s face it, Bogie and Bacall were one of the great couples of our times.
