The great operatic soprano Mirella Freni passed away Sunday.
Most of you probably have never heard of her, and many of you couldn’t care less. But she was one of the truly great ones, and her loss will be felt worldwide.
I saw her perform many times at the Met.
And I saw her at the Lyric. Cio Cio San, for one.
Sad news.
How very odd. The obit specifically states that she never performed a complete stage performance of Madama Butterfly.
Hmmm. Coulda sworn it was her. Must’ve been someone else then. It’s been years.
I know I saw her there in something.
Maybe it was Mimi in La Boheme. I usually pay more attention to the baritones if you want to know the truth. I had a thing for Richard Stilwell for a brief period. Then I was bowled over by a shirtless Samuel Ramey
Oh, I understand the appeal. I’ve heard/seen a good number of very bodacious Salomes.
