What is this “paper” of which you speak?

And more seriously, it would only save paper if it reduced the number of pages, which means you’d need an original text which was longer than a single page (don’t forget to use both sides). At which point that sort of “word economy” starts to get seriously hard to read.

Arrrrgh!

Geniuses do vex me!!!

Q

I’m starting to text more and more and I always have this crisis of conscience when I come to a ‘to’ or a ‘for’ or a ‘you’. Right now, I spell them out, but the siren call of 2, 4 and U is strong.

I think I’d embrace a simplification of English spelling. For instance, all long ‘e’ sounds should be ‘ee’. No more of the ‘ea’ (meat) or ‘e at the end’ (discrete) bullshit. Stuff like that.

No, I’m not a weird economist. I’m not even an economist at all.

Why not save paper using smaller page sizes. Instead of 8 1/2 x 11 make page sizes 1 1/2 x 3, and have everyone carry around a hand held magnifying glass.

Otherwise all you’re saving is key strokes. Not that keystrokes should be trifled with mind you, but imo it won’t save paper.
