No one said any one worships Moses. That doesn’t change the fact he is a significant religious figure, at least for Christians. I really don’t know how Jews feel about him.
There’s virtually no evidence to support a historical Moses, and he’s venerated as a religious figure by Christians around the world. So to try to say Moses isn’t a religious figure, at least to the world’s two billion Christians, is ridiculous.
Wow, Martin. A half-dozen consecutive posts without another voice in between. After seeing you construct that edifice of agreement with yourself, I begin to sense the deep aesthetic allure that a string of Christmas trees, only Christmas trees, with no annoying menorahs in sight, must have for you. So I’ll forgive you your assault on good manners and good sense; fortunately, no damage was done.
Arguing about whether a Christmas tree is a religious symbol gets one only to the point of whether it can legally be displayed at all in certain areas. It does absolutely nothing to address the questions that arise after, like “can you exclude a menorah from a public forum in which you’re allowing the display of Christmas trees?” or (since you insist that your concerns run deeper than the law), “should you?” If it helps, you can reflect on the fact that the Supreme Court didn’t stop at saying that a Christmas tree could be a secular symbol for purposes of public display; it gave the same evaluation of the menorah too. So they both pass the same test, and you’re back at the original question of why isn’t the forum you created open to groups other than Christians and secular Christmas celebrants?
Oh, and you also contend that your characterizing Lubovitchers as – well, let’s go to the tape:
actually was because of their propensity to try to convert other Jews (how that must sting you every day), and that the idea that they bring lawsuits when First Amendment freedoms are threatened–
Hmmm. In a thread about a rabbi’s assertion of first amendment rights, in response to a question which you quoted in your post that asked, "Okay, did this guy threaten a lawsuit or not? " your assertion that they’re troublemakers comes from the fact that as a Christian you’re bothered by the fact that they try to convert other Jews. Martin, I’m loath to give advice, but you might consider discarding whichever of your personalities came up with this gem.
In short, Martin, if you wish to worship your creator, a tree would probably suit you fine, being over 99% nut and all.
