RADAR Detector safety warnings

For several years I have had one of the RADAR detectors that can also display “safety warnings” such as “accident”, “road work” etc. The idea was that the authorities could place a special transmitter at the beginning of a work zone or near a particularly dangerous railroad grade crossing, I guess that’s redundant, and drivers equipped with receivers incorporating this technology would be alerted to an unusual situation.

In my travels around the USA I have never received any alerts other than RADAR or LASER. Most of my travels have been in the Midwest and South East U.S. Is anyone out there using this system? Have any Dopers seen one of these alerts? Or is this an idea that came and went so fast I didn’t notice?

Thanks

I’ve got a detector too, and the safety warning has gone off exactly once. My guess is, nobody bothers buying the little beacons and setting them up. The “safety warning” feature on most laser detectors is merely designed to give them some respectability; manufacturers know they’re designing a product designed to allow you to (technically) break the law, and anything they can do to subvert that image is to their advantage, hence the unused “safety warnings” (My radar detector, when it’s turned on, says “Welcome. Buckle your seatbelt.”. More of the same).
