Haven’t really wanted to post this, but as my son is now in 1st grade and interacting with more kids, I felt that this might be one of the better places to garner information.
My son, who was born in January ’99, was diagnosed with “bi-lateral isolated radial dysplasia with radial club hand.”
Quite a mouthful I know but as I have been telling it to people for 6 years it just sort of rolls off the tongue now.
He had many operations when he was still a baby, one of the main ones being the application of a Kessler Frame. (about a third of the way down the page, then some pictures about halfway down.)
He then had to endure 2 more operations, one on each hand to give him a workable thumb from his index finger, this being the final result.
Now to the General Question part.
I would like to find know if anybody here has the same “handicap” (I put that in quotes because I don’t really consider it a handicap, more, an enhancement…) and how they have progressed through life and what, if any, were the major obstacles they encountered along the way.
If anyone wants to ask me any detailed questions, or if I need to explain any of the above a bit more, please feel free to post in this thread.
