Raiders came out in 1981. It was set in 1936. If it came out today and had the same gap it would be set in 1981. Time marches on and on.
But the 80s were only 20 years ago.
I gotta question your math there, Lou.
1936-81 is 45 years.
2025-45 years is 1980.
Still, I think you could set the film in 1981 and not really have to change anything big. Sure the cars, the clothes, but you could use neo-Nazis trying to resurrect Hitler, or Illinois Nazis, or Moonbase nazis. It could work.
Back to the Future was set in 1985 and 1955.
A contemporary version would be set Today(2025) and thirty years ago…
Which just seems weird to me.
Indy has to find Solomon’s genie lamp before the Ayatollah gets his mitts on it.
I think of times and dates like this.
I’m not a numbers person. But I do see it in my head as a straight line calender. The calender makes a big left turn into the 2000s.
And screws up my linear needs.
I don’t usually apply popular cultural icons to this.
Maybe I try to with TOS series. But they confused me.
So…yeah. My thoughts.
Oh, to add…the way we see simple numbers and letters in our heads comes directly from the first classroom setting you remember.
My K teacher had the calender stretched out above her mis-used blackboard. She pointed out the days as we went on. The blackboard had cards with big letters and a picture pasted on it. It was all so confusing to me. So my head pictures of numbers and letters are mixed up. Pay me no mind.
There are lot more Nazis in 1936 and 2025 then there were in 1981.
