"Rain" Short Story, ID please

I started reading McSweeney’s Mammoth Collection of Thrilling Tales (pardon me if that isn’t the entirely correct title) and in the introduction, where Michael Chabon laments the passing of the ‘plot-driven short story’, he offers some examples, including ‘Monkey’s Paw’ and ‘Occurrence at Owl Bridge’. One example he cites is something called ‘Rain’, of which I have not heard. Can anyone enlighten me on this - author, for example? Google gives me way too many hits for such a general title.

Any help appreciated. I am enjoying the collection so far.

Amazing. Every day I discover something on the web that I didn’t expect. Here is a link to the entire Maugham short story, “Rain”.

Rain launched Crawford’s career? Not hardly. Even if she didn’t have more than 40 credits prior to Rain, Grand Hotel was out before Rain and if anything would be considered a career-launching film it would be that prestige picture.

Thanks. Knew I could count on the Board.
