Raising Hope: Another great show that I bet you don't watch

Absolutely love it. It’s currently my second favorite comedy after “Modern Family”.

It took me the longest time to figure out that Sabrina was the girl from “The Riches”.

How can you not love a show that has an exchange like this (paraphrase):

Burt: At least he went quickly and peacefully.
MawMaw: Oh heavens no… it was quite the fight… have you ever tried to cut a pig with a pizza cutter?

My husband and I think it’s a hoot. I especially like the babysitter’s songs. “It’s just the doorbell, the freaking doorbell!”

Huh!

Yeah great show. I was leery of it honestly from it’s stupid contrived name and “oh great another show about a baby” but the parents and Cloris Leachman are so fantastic, you can’t not watch!

She is half of the duo Garfunkel and Oates. Look up their stuff if you like her style, although their songs are a lot dirtier than she can get away with on tv.

I’m surprised there was no thread about this week’s episode in which it is revealedSerial Killer Mom may yet live.

Or was this a repeat of an old ep and already resolved?

It’s a new episode.

And the other big surprise from the episode is that

Jimmy actually married the serial killer.

I think this one was a season finale, though - so we won’t get answers til next fall

Googling - Nope, we’ll get to see the second half next week, then the big wait til the fall

I love this show so hard, and I had the same thought when I first heard about it. It seemed so discriminatory to men; oh, he’s a man, so how does he know how to take care of a baby? He’s pushing it around in a shopping cart! The previews really made it seem like another “Dumb Men Can’t Do Anything” show, and I hate that stuff. But, I ended up watching part of it, not knowing what it was (I walked in and the kids had left the TV on) and just loving how sweet and funny it was. Jimmy has his inept moments, but he’s far from the dumb guy stereotype. I just love how funny it is, without making fun of the characters. Since my economic station is pretty close to the Chance’s, I really appreciate the way they honestly portray being broke ass without it being preachy or pitying.

Great show.

I really like the show, but the last several episodes since Jimmy and Sabrina got together have been kinda lame, IMO. it reminds me of the season of Trailer Park Boys where everyone is nice to each other.

Was Virginia’s maiden name “Virginia Slims” or did I hear that wrong?

I love Drakkar Noir so much - I wish he had a cameo in every episode.

Yeah, she was named that way to hopefully get a free carton of cigarettes.
Once question about Noir, why didn’t Sabrina get all excited when she found out he was Drakkar? Last season’s finale said that she had a crush on that mysterious goth who hung around the store.

Oh yeah, that’s right! Maybe he confessed that he was Drakkar Noir to her already.

Maybe she was in the bathroom when Inside Probe aired the picture. AFAIK, Jimmy isn’t aware she has a thing for goths and in the season finale of the first season he made it clear he didn’t want her to know. I doubt he would have spilled the beans.

So why were Frank and Barney at the wedding? I know Jimmy shopped at Howdy’s, but he didn’t work there yet, and he didn’t seem like he really knew them at all when the show started.

Howdy’s caters all the prison weddings.

I look forward to that show more than any other these days.

I missed last week’s episode. Apparently Hope’s mother is still alive.

How do they explain this? Did mom have a twin sister?

I’m guessing she survived the electrocution and as everyone in TV land knows, if you survive your execution they gotta let you go.

They may cater all the prison weddings, but there’s still a bit of a continuity problem as the grocery store had a different theme in the pilot. I think other flashback episodes have had the same error, though, so I suppose it’s been retconned into always being that way.

And holy crap, this is the only time I HAVEN’T wanted to strangle Nancy Grace. She’s a lot more tolerable when self parodying.

Odd that they had commercials for My Name Is Earl reruns on the Chances’ TV, since they’ve also had references (mention about Earl finishing his list in the pilot) and direct crossovers (Patty the Daytime Hooker, Tim Stacks). Sure their neighbor looks like Randy and Barney looks like Kenny, and that one rocker guy looks like Earl, but that was the real Patty, the real Tim Stacks (set him on fire, watch him burn to death). Is My Name Is Earl a reality show in the Raising Hope universe?
