Rally caps for Asshats

Seems like all of my posts today have been baseball-related, but damn NYY/BOS for keeping me up past my bedtime last night. Anyway, this is the place to publically vant your anger, and so I pit all of those fans who are following this new trend of turning your baseball caps inside out and wearing them in support of your team. No. Just NO. It isn’t going to make your team win or lose any faster, it’s just going to make you look like an idiot on national television. This practice must end RIGHT NOW. Go back to the stuffed monkeys if you have to, but the next time I see someone wearing an inside out hat, I am going to punch something.

That’s not a new trend. Rally caps have been around for at least 14 years. I saw them back when I was in college; but I’d guess they predate that.

Move west with the rest of the Yankee/Red Sox fans…that will solve half of your problems.

They pretty much only appear at ballparks or on TV. I’d say that it is very easy to avoid them.

As Homebrew said, they’ve been around since at least the early 90’s

I was thinking of starting a separate Pit thread for this but I’ll just add and piggyback.

  1. If you are going to do a stupid ballpark ritual do it right! It a rally cap dumbass, you where it to magically make your team have a rally. You know what that word means? If you are still wearing it when the other team is up then you obviously don’t know what it means.

  2. Stop stealing other teams stupid ballpark rituals. The 1986 Mets started the rally cap (remember them Red Sox fans?), when they did it, it was fun and unique. Now its tired and stupid. The Twins have the homer hankie. Stop waving your rags around unless you are at a Twins game. If the Yanks hit a home run in Fenway keep it as a souvenir. If you throw it back you are an idiot because you are not in Wrigley Field. In Chicago its a tradition. In Boston you are a moron.

Thank you.

:smack: I usually let my typos go without comment but shit that ones bad.

Inside-out caps suck. The only cool rally cap look is the one where the bill of the cap is placed so it looks kinda like a shark fin.

If I’m not mistaken, this started with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ terrible towels in the 1970’s.

But that was yellow. And it was a towel not a hankie. Completely different.

I believe that rally caps began with the Mets of the late 1980’s. They would turn their caps inside out, upside down or some other strange combination while they were sitting in the dugout to try to sustain a rally.

At least it’s not a stadium full of people mooing like they have a collective case of gastroenteritis, together with the Braves chop. Oy!
