Ramifications of IS attack in Iran

I don’t know the details of any recent arms deals. But generally we favor the Saudi regime over the Wahhabis. Of course, that’s a minor point as long as the two factions are working together. But if they do break apart, I feel we would back the Saudis.

Don’t worry, yu’re not alone. When the USA supplied Iraq with $billions of arms, it had absolutely no idea where they went once in country:

It’s almost like the idea is to throw fuel on the fire.
US lost track of $1bn arms and kit in Iraq, says Amnesty?

Trump’s 110 billion dollar arms deal is a fantasy. It never happened.

Looks like maybe Tillerson has finally come out of his review process and is starting to get to work.

Nice to see the Adults finally getting a chance to do some good.

Well, they have an idea where most of them went. But it was the practice of the US military, especially during the height of the Iraq insurgency, that once it turned over weapons to the Iraqis (or Afghanis) that it was their responsibility to keep track of them using their own tracking system. Perhaps we should have treated them like small children and watched out for them and done the accounting, but that wasn’t the policy at the time. BTW, while $1 billion in arms ‘in recent years’ SOUNDS like a lot (and, when we are talking about small arms, it is), it’s a drop in the bucket really.

At any rate, we know where a lot of those arms went, as I say. Some were given to militia units, many of which deserted or were decisively defeated (and in most cases executed), surrendering their arms to groups like ISIS and the Taliban (this happened quite a bit with regular troops as well, btw), or selling them personally in the vast black market that exists in both countries.

Or, it could have been that the idea was to equip as many soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan as quickly as possible since they were both facing fairly serious insurgencies, and that we relied on both of those governments to do their own accounting…and they did, just not all that great.

Is there any other kind of weaponry? :stuck_out_tongue:
