Those of you bringing down Fran’s positive vibe by saying crap like “you haven’t really visited America” need to go take your bad feelings of LA back to where ever you are. She was giving her impressions of the part of America She visited. Do you really think she could have visited ALL of the US? I dont think so. And whatever your opinion is of “the real America” is, is just as valid as someone who lives in LA.
Sorry, i just hate wet blankets…they need to be taken to a line and dried out.
I’m sorry, Fran, but I’m afraid I’m going to have to confiscate AlexB from you, so if you could send him through the mail (or “post,” as you Brits so quaintly put it), I’d be more than happy to pay the postage due. Truly, I never understand a damn thing he says, but, well, we all just love him. Lots. Be a love, won’t you? Thanks all.
Esprix (who learned everything he needed to know about England from “Dr. Who,” “Monty Python” and various PBS britcoms like “Good Neighbours”)
“Good Neighbours”? What in the name of hell was that?
I like the idea of a BIG LonDope. That way maybe I can meet some of you too. Not that I’m jealous or anything, Fran, I hope you understand. I mean - I like living vicariously through your exploits. You tell it so well. Mumble.
Well, I’m so glad you guys had fun. I miss you two in particular.
Fran, I think we’ll make a glorious married couple. Imagine the parties! Frankly, I don’t think our parties would ever progress past us getting drunk and talking about who we might invite.
Alex - I can’t look at my circus coffee without thinking of you, dahling. There’s a good chap.
Esprix, let me have your children. Or, at least let me have Boi Toi.
“Melrose is like a very spaced-out version of Camden.”
—Camden, New Jersey? That’s sufficiently spaced-out as it is . . .
I am going to be entertaining a large group of Brits (from Manchester) this weekend. Any idea of where we can go in NYC to freak them out with our American-ness? We’re planning on the Village, maybe the Upper West Side . . .
Melrose. Damn, I keep forgetting I need to get a new pair of shoes. Now if only I could remember the cross street for Nada Ricci, I can go get some. (Cheaper to get my shoes there than at a mall.)
It was a 70’s (?) British sit-com about a suburban couple that decides to give up the shackles of modern life and convert their house to a self-sustaining farm, much to the chagrin of their uppity neighbors. Starred Felicity Kendall, and I forget who the farmer husband was. Quite amusing. Also add “To The Manor Born” to that list, and, of course, “Fawlty Towers.”
Apparantly, The Good Life changed its name to “Good Neighbours” on its way over the Atlantic.
Eve - just take them out for breakfast. I assure you they’ll be freaked by the mountainous chlorestorolic goodness that is an American breakfast. And get them to try and order a cup of tea with it.
rjung - Thank you. Melrose was one of my favourite places.
