Specifically MAGA hypocrisy–let’s rank their hypocrisy from the most glaring to the most excusable. I’ll start by nominating their accusation that Dems are weaponizing the Justice Department when they ran in 2016 on “LOCK HER UP!” Now they’re professing to be outraged that the Dems have had the DoJ do a proper investigation and are attempting to convict the Lock Her Up guy for committing specific crimes. Hard to out-do that brand of in-your-face hypocrisy, but I’m willing to be persuaded otherwise. Go.
They’re freaked out over what the existence of transgendered people will do to the kids, but could give a flying fuck about gun violence, which is an actual harm that kids are experiencing.
My favorite is how the far right decries “cancel culture” whenever they want to be racist, misogynist assholes and get called on it. Then they turn around and “cancel” Bud Light, Chick-Fil-A, Target, and anyone else who shows any sympathy for LBGTQ+ people.
“Our bodies, our choice” when it applies to vaccines, but not abortion. I don’t think it ranks very high on the hypocrisy spectrum, because they’d say that a baby is not your body, but their expectation that other people will treat that phrase seriously when they themselves do not still feels hypocritical.
In terms of rank hypocrisy, what could top refusing to even consider allowing Obama to propose Supreme Court appointments because “there’s an election coming up and the people should be allowed to choose the new president before filling the vacant seat” but then ramrodding T****'s appointments during the final months (weeks?) before the election?
“In my administration I’m going to enforce all laws concerning the protection of classified information. No one will be above the law.”
Donald Trump, August 18, 2016
"The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax…regarding documents that I had the RIGHT to declassify as President of the United States”
Complaining loudly about the danger of the deficit to the point of defaulting on the US debt, followed immediately by trying to pass billions in tax cuts.
I did not know about Chick Fil A! I need to do some googling…I thought they were one of those businesses owned by evangelicals who were against LBGTQ+ rights.
One thing aggravating that some Republicans have done is blaming Dems for this fiasco bc they “provoked” Donald J Trump. My 7 year old grandson does not even claim people made him do stuff (he just recently matured out of this developmental stage, however). I heard this from a couple of conservative analysts, who, while they certainly decried Trump’s deeds, they also felt that the Dems were too aggressive with the impeachment, etc., and aroused the ire in Trump that led to him seeking his revenge. I think John Bolton was one such who made this claim, but I heard a couple of others state something similar. Not a fan of Bolton, so I don’t care much what he says (he just wants lots of book sales, anyway).
If someone knocks on your door and asks to borrow a cup of sugar, then steals everything in your house when you let them in, you don’t chuckle and say “not so interested in the sugar now, are you?” That’s not you scoring points on them. That’s them scoring on you and you not learning the right lesson.
They were but recently they tried to reform their image by hiring a vice-president for Diversity Equality and Inclusion, and for that heresy they are being shunned.
Oh goody. Another way we can tell each other how bad Republicans are, while doing fuck-all about it. Plus expending more energy trying to create a system to categorize and rate the badness. No-one can say we don’t do nuance, that’s for sure.
There is absolutely nothing that is going to show up here that hasn’t been talked to death already over (at a minimum) the past 7 years. This is just another exercise so that Democrats/liberals can feel good – about themselves. Smug much?
Yes, this is thread-shitting. I didn’t bother looking up whether it is allowed in the pit. Maybe I’ll get my knuckles rapped.
Yes, a fetus is part of a pregnant person’s body, as well as being a genetically distinct (although in early pregnancy very undeveloped) individual entity. That dual nature of the early-term fetus is exactly why we reproductive-rights supporters think abortion before viability is A-OK.
Your (generic “you”) virus-laden effluvia that you’ve spewed into the atmosphere are not (any longer) part of your body. If during a time of deadly pandemic you can keep your bodily effluvia to yourself and not spray them all over other people, then I for one don’t really give a rat’s ass (other than feeling compassion for your own unnecessarily increased vulnerability) if you refuse to get vaccinated against the pandemic germ. But if you’re not effectually shielding other people from your plague-rat self, then your vaccination status is no longer solely your own personal business.
So yeah, supporting “bodily autonomy” for vaccine refusal but not for abortion rights is definitely some hypocritical bullshit. (If an abortion were somehow capable of contagiously causing abortion in other pregnant people, then the same would hold true for supporting the reverse position; but it isn’t, so it doesn’t.)
Pointing it out, ad nauseum, is a start. You have other ideas? Frankly, I don’t know how we can save this country from these people.
Turning to the Chick fillet boycott, I must say it’s stunning to me. While I fully embrace the idea of a company having someone coordinating diversity and inclusion, I suppose I can understand someone might not think it’s a good idea. However, a private company doing something that you think is not a good idea is hardly grounds of a boycott. And where are you going to eat? I would wager that McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, and even Cracker Barrel have diversity and inclusion officers. (perhaps by a different name).
Many of them claim to be fundamentalist or evangelical Christians, but they have no use whatsoever for actual teachings of Christ, such as “love thy neighbor, care for the sick, turn the other cheek, help the stranger (immigrant)”. And their standard bearer is the very embodiment of the seven deadly sins.
