Rant or Treat (October Mini Rants)

SHIT HEAVING THRICE DAMNED MOTHER FUCKING ALLERGIES!!! Holy fuck nugget, that sucked balls. Thank god for benadryl.

I’m trying to get a commercial driver’s license (career change), and the ministry of transportation is holding up the process because I had a sleep study done in 1998 that showed I have sleep apnea. Which I do. And for which I use a CPAP. Further sleep studies in 2008 and 2012 confirm my apnea is well controlled. But I get it, apnea + 80,000 lbs of truck is a bad combo.

The thing is, I have to get my learner’s permit 3 weeks prior to taking the course. Which starts mid-December. And fortuitously, my mother will be out of the country during the course time, which means instead of purchasing a new car (which we’ll have to do at some point), I can use hers, saving me about $1,500. Plus I want to give my employer as much notice as possible (6 weeks, hopefully).

So does it really take 30 freaking days to review my file (which says “Obstructive Sleep Apnea - controlled by CPAP”)!? And then you have to send me a letter before I can write my test!? A LETTER? What is this, the 30’s? Electronic transmission and approval is pretty standard now, how is it you fuckers can’t keep up!!??

I hate dealing with the government sometimes. The people there are just so apathetic. I tried to call and see if there was any way to expedite the process, and was basically told no, sorry, there is absolutely no way to do that. Signed up for a $8,500 course? Too bad. 30 days. File should have been updated in 2008 and 2012? 30 days. Begging? Cajoling? Ham fisted attempt at bribery? 30 days.

Ugh.

Ugh. The other day I wanted to see an article online, and when I went to the article page, the inevitable “Subscribe to our site!” popup popped up. I tried pressing the Escape key on the keyboard to see if that’d get rid of the popup, but I accidentally pressed the Sleep key or some other key that temporarily screwed up my computer, and it was a bit of a struggle to get the computer running again.

ARGH.

tl/dr fuck popups.

ARGH!!!

Slash burn pillage!!!

United Healthcare needs to be nuked from space!!!

Where is that address for the insurance commissioner?

Ugh. Insurance seems like more of a pain every year.

Related but not related, I buy the meds for the animals in our shelter. Needed fluoxetine for one particular kitty who has issues. Cost for me to buy from my supplier, $160. Called an Rx into Target and asked for the super secret coupon only the person at the register can look up and apply for non-insured purchases. Their retail price without coupon would have been $174 for me to buy, but with the coupon it was $18. So someone who is uninsured and doesn’t know the secret password would get stuck with $174? That ain’t right.

A friend of mine was trying to get state approval allowing him to give away beer he brewed. He owns a pizza/beer place, had a liquor license already, just needed approval to give away his home brewed stuff.

He filled out the forms, paid the fee, and waited. Months went by. He was told there was a backlog of similar applications.

Eventually another home brewer told him a palm needed some grease. Not a direct bribe, but a donation to a cause the govt man’s brother was involved with. He made the donation and had his document a few days later.

I broke my silverware drawer last night. With the back of my head. Right before work.

All night. “Hey, uhh, I don’t mean to alarm you, but you have blood running down the back of your neck.” “I know. Thanks.”

I ran out of vacuum cleaner bags.

Stores don’t stock them, have to order online. OK, I get it, it’s old.

The bags only fit this and related models. All the models need a new filter over the motor when you change the bag. The filters used to be packaged with the bags, but now have to be purchased separately. OK, but the bags come in packs of three, and the filters come in packs of 5. WHY? it’s the hot dog and bun thing all over again. The online store offers quantity discount “N packs.” 18 bags, 15 filters. Fuckers.

Last Friday, my BiL’s uncle died. Last Saturday, one of my husband’s aunts died. Also Saturday, my SiL’s best friend’s father died. My husband mentioned that there was also someone else who died on Monday who is connected to the family somehow.

2015 is so fucking fired.

I suppose if everyone knew about the super secret coupon, Target wouldn’t be able to afford to sell it for such a reduced price.

My roommate’s been having some inner ear trouble and has been put on a low sodium diet by his doctor. No more than 2000mg a day. And since we generally cook and eat together, this essentially means I’m on a low sodium diet. Really, it’s not the end of the world as my blood pressure does run high and I have a family history of heart attacks, but dammit, spices and herbs may give flavor but salt is what makes food taste good!

(The bright side is that some of his favorite meals that I don’t particularly enjoy are ridiculously high in sodium.)

As my parents got older, the amount of salt in mom’s cooking kept going up and up. It was kind of a relief when my dad got put on a low-sodium diet after his heart surgery, because I didn’t have to tell them that maybe the reason my nephews and niece are so picky about eating grandma’s cooking was like drinking seawater.

I attended the funeral today of a 24-year-old man who died in a car wreck running from the police. He was clocked speeding, and decided to outrun the cop, flipping his car in the process. No priors, no drugs, no alcohol.

The entire funeral was spent celebrating his history of loving motorcycles, ATVs, and anything with wheels and an engine. Humorous and admiring stories were told about his recklessness and hijinks, ALL SEEMINGLY WITHOUT A SHRED OF AWARENESS THAT THIS IS WHAT KILLED HIM.

I don’t get that level of…what? Denial? Obliviousness?

My grandma is dying. She might not make it till morning. She’s not responsive. I’m heading up with my partner tomorrow. Might be too late to see her. But she’s unresponsive anyway. So it probably doesn’t matter. Except it does matter.

I’ve lost people before, but it’s always been sudden. This waiting thing is such bullshit. I want to do something–anything–to help, and I can’t, because there’s nothing.

She’s already been gone for a couple of years already, really. Fuck.

People with insurance that has a prescription drug benefit wouldn’t need it.

This is something that really bothers me, for humans and critters. There are so many ways to save money on meds and people don’t know about them so uninsured people and critters often suffer or die needlessly.

My rant is mini, mini, mini compared to everyone elses. There is a new pizza delivery driver at work. I know that he is new because he gave our pizza away to someone who approached him in the parking lot. I work in a large business complex. The parking lots are huge and it is a bit of a pain for the drivers to go to the lobbies.

Sometimes I spring for pizza for minion and I at lunch. There are vultures in the parking lot who will swoop in when they see a delivery truck and claim that they were the ones who ordered the food, tip the driver a buck or so and take off with the food. If it wasn’t prepaid, they will sometimes even pay for it.

A call to the food place always gets new food delivered and the driver learns to always go into the lobby like they were told to do, but dang, it just ticks me off when it happens.

Lazy fuckers can’t be bothered to order their own food, they just take food that other people are waiting for.

That’s stealing. I don’t really consider that very mini! Jeez, stealing pizza. Ridiculous!

Another kicker with that medication is the 10mg tablets cost so much, but the 10mg capsules are on the $4 Rx list. Hard to cut a capsule in half, tho.

Oh, and this just in - when I went to pick up my Rx medication today my copay is suddenly $3 instead of $10. I mean, yay and all, but what about the last 6 months?

I have my adult son and daughter on my health insurance plan. Last week my daughter texted me that she got her flu shot and so should I; why not, it’s free, right?

So I stop at a drugstore advertising their flu vaccines. The cashier takes my insurance card and tells me they don’t cover the vaccine, so I pay cash. I still don’t know if my daughter got more than she should have or if I got screwed.

So not miniminimini, flatlined. That sucks!

I could be wrong, but I thought I just saw a recent news segment encouraging the flu vaccine and that insurance is required to cover it as part of the universal health care act. I bet you could still send in a claim for reimbursement.
