No need to push alarmist buttons. This is an alarming.
No body claims it is the end of the world.. Don’t make claims like that. But it may well be the end of nuclear plant construction.
The ground water in japan is being poisoned. Radioactive iodine has seeped 50 feet down and is continuing.
You want to see how strong NIMBYs can be, just announce a plant location and watch the people rally against it. That is political reality.
You can be absolutely sure that the damage is being understated. In all nuclear plant problems ,the plant spokesmen lie and cover up , hoping to keep people from knowing how bad it really is.
You could had fooled many with your efforts so far…
Based on ignorance, an error is an error even if millions of people are in favor of it.
And that is what me and many of the “nuclear deniers” said also before, heads will roll for the mistakes made, and seeing that not even Chernobyl deterred nuclear power I will have to bet that this is not the end of it.
BTW most of what you have been mentioning requires that also independent monitoring agencies are also understating it, that is indeed going for conspiracy theories.
An understatement is a form of speech which contains an expression of less strength than what would be expected. Well, sorry that it usually does not fit your alarmist views, as mentioned before that only leads to the ones launching the accusations that they are always minimizing the problems to be discredited when information is being twisted to report that the sky is literally falling (Like in the previous FX stupid report of the dangers of Iodine 131 in rain water).
What the nuclear deniers don’t want to discuss, is how the radioactive material, which should be encased in zirconium, is ending up all over the world right now.
Faced with the facts, that this is happening, they switch to “It’s not harmful”. But they don’t know that of course.
Harm comes in many flavors.

Actually, as in most things, you are dead wrong. I DO want to talk about it…in the context of the actual threat. That’s the part that YOUR side doesn’t want to talk about, because it makes you look like fools who are jumping at shadows.
But, of course, the amount CAN be measured, so in fact, they DO know what the potential harm might be. Those are the ‘facts’ that you simply ignore because it doesn’t sound scary enough for you to bother with. It SOUNDS much more scary to simply say ‘OMG! Radioactive material from Japan is falling ALL OVER THE WORLD RIGHT NOW!!!’…without any context as to what that means, or what the actual threat is. And without pointing out that radioactive material is falling all over the world ALL THE TIME.
But ignorance…ignorance seems to be forever. At least with folks like you.

What xtisme said.
BTW FX, what I did was basically what this science reporter that deals with the idiocy of climate change deniers recommends:
Look at the sources, is the headline or information that the alarmists or deniers claim * mentioned or supported by the original published material?
If not, then we get the case where the sources one relies are not useful at all, they are indeed misleading you; of course, then if after you learn that they are misleading you and you continue to rely on them or you fail to acknowledge that you were had, then the problem is not them but you.
Some folks prefer to deal with facts. Other folks like to rant about wanting to bitch-slap those who prefer to deal with facts.
Oh we know. And often unpleasant facts are buried, because somebody with power and money doesn’t like the facts.
You seem to have missed this part of the story. Somehow that does not surprise me.
You proved my point!
Actuallly what it shows is that either you expect that people will not check the whole article or you do not know how to do it.
In the end the article reports that:
Remember folks, we had been told by the alarmists that we **already **know that is very likely that there has been a breach in the reactor already. To see then that the most serious critics admit that no one knows yet does tell me that what **matt **is saying is one of the most likely explanations that we have so far.
Or it could be April 1st
Ah…so, you are the April Fool? What about all the other days though? You seem to be the March Fool as well? I guess, to make the list smaller, is there ever a time when you AREN’T a fool?

Got ya.
I know just how he felt.
The huge problem here, is the inability to get anyone close enough to know what is going on. That a camera/robot can’t get close enough just makes it a huge clusterfuck. That the same thing can happen at any nuclear plant illustrates, in a truly terrible way, the real problem with nuclear power.
If things go seriously wrong, you now can’t get close enough to do anything about it. Hell, you can’t get close enough to know what is even happening.
It’s about as fucked a situation as can be possible.
February 29th.
A curious bit of info in the status report.
What the fuck? Reactors 5 and 6 are supposedly the only two undamaged buildings, aside from the holes that were made in them by work crews. Yet they can’t get inside them either? I suspect the early reports of fuel rod damage and reactor problems after the power went down, means they are also fucked.
They just don’t want to say that.
I mean, why bust giant ass holes in your containment building to vent hydrogen gas? Oh yeah, because there are melted fuel rods there as well, and it produced hydrogen gas.
This disaster is like a slow motion train wreck, except the company that owns the trains doesn’t want anyone knowing how bad it is.
Oh, and the people that love nuclear power are are waving signs and telling everyone that just because a giant train wreck happened, that doesn’t mean trains are dangerous.
Which is actually true for trains.
Straw man.
It’s official, there is no end in sight for the damaged reactors.
Fuck. I really really hoped by now the nuclear people would be mocking me, pointing out how wrong I was, laughing at my stupid commentary.
Now that it is dragging into the fourth week, and there is no end anywhere close to being in sight, it’s all become quite depressing.
