I just explained why you should not yell fire, even if you know there is one.
Are you not reading or what?

And it’s not as if there is no information out there about the current crisis, and is not as if all the information is simply TEPCO ass-covering.
The Union of Concerned Scientists has a bunch of stuff about the Fukushima plant on its website. The UCS is an organization that is, on the whole, opposed to any major expansion of nuclear facilities and is often portrayed as a left-liberal organization in terms of its policy positions. They are not likely to sugar-coat unpleasant facts about this incident in order to make nuclear power look safe.
There is a page of FAQs and a terminology page that, between them, do a good job of explaining many of the basic issues and untangling many of the confusions that non-scientists might have when confronted with a story like this. They also have a daily media briefings page, where three UCS experts talk about the current developments and explain in lay terms what is going on.
The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency also has an update log where it provides a sort of journal or running account of information regarding the crisis in Japan.
Wait,
Early on in all this, weren’t you one of the nuclear sky is falling posters?
Piffle,
In real life people do it and no one is prosecuted when it is clear that action saved lives or property.
Before I explained that looking at the sources a poster uses would clearly explain where a poster is coming from, the conclusion is that you are indeed relying on forums and reports of dubious nature, if your past claim that you are seeing great discussions elsewhere is valid then you need to ask yourself why that morbidity and risk table and other sources were not reported by the “great” places that you report that are serious.
That table BTW was published in **2001 **and updated recently.
Lets look at that as if it is all fact.
First, the rooms that they needed to get to, to hook up outside power to (because their generators and fuel were fucked by the tsunami) were flooded. The couldn’t hook up power, and the salt water also fucked up other shit there.
That was the cause of no external power to all the reactors. After the back up and the back up to the back up failed. The first reactor that blew the fuck up, from hydrogen gas, that was due to a reactor overheating.
All of the reactors overheated of course, and all the building had explosions. All of them. Even #4, which had no fuel in the reactor blew the fuck up, probably from damage to it from the #3 explosion. Nobody knows yet.
But the screamingly obvious fact is that if you lose back up power to one of these kind of reactors, even if you shut it down before losing power, even if it is already cooling down, bad shit happens.
Could this happen to one of the same kind in the US or elsewhere? Of course. But the venting added to the US ones would prevent the hydrogen explosion (we hope), but it won’t stop the core from burning and damaging it. That’s just physics. If your back up power goes down, and you can’t fly in a bunch of huge ass diesels and hook them up before the batteries go dead, you are fucked.
If the battery system also goes down, or the power couplings, or anything in the chain stops the water from cooling a reactor, you are fucked.
That’s the laws of physics for that design.
“Measures that increase the chance of restoring power within the four-hour time period, and provide better cooling options if that time runs out, would make U.S. reactors less vulnerable”
No fucking shit. But that doesn’t change the facts as they are now. Could this shit happen in the US? Of course.
Could it happen to more reactors in Japan? Of course.
In fact, another huge ass tsunami right now and all the other plants, the ones at sea level, they could suffer the same fucking disaster.
Does my bitching about it change a fucking thing? Well, not in regards to making anything safer, but I sure feel better.
(edited typo)
Good grief…anything fucking fear wracked anti-nuclear thread by the same idiot so prominent in the other one of these train wrecks in the Pit?? Why do we need a second thread full of fear, tired rantage and strawmaning of the supposed ‘pro-nuclear’ positions? There seemed to be enough of that in the other thread.

The other one reached too high a level of stupid. It was over 9000
I can’t wait for somebody to actually talk about that chart. You can start by explaining why there is no time factor involved in, say the doses for nuclear workers . And no distance used for the final Chernobyl figures.
Like, how close is “next to”? And how increasing your distance from the Chernobyl caused the dose to fall off by four times, each time you double the distance from it.
Or the vast difference between skin exposure, eating or breathing different particles.
It’s lacking in a lot of other things as well.
The author of the chart admits its limitations and supplies cites. You’re an idiot who does neither.
I’ll side with the chart.

Well sure, but sadly you are in this thread as well, and it’s only a matter of time before gonzomax, TSS and levdrakon bring it back to that same level.
Out of curiosity, since you were whining in the other thread about how the pro-nukers were being mean to you and that you couldn’t get a good debate (snort the irony levels of your comment there were a hell of a lot higher than the radiation levels in reactors 2 or 3), why did you start another thread here in the Pit? Why didn’t you have the guts to start one in GD? I assume you did so because you know, deep down that your position is a load of monkey poo, but maybe you had another reason to post your new and improved rant here instead…

I started this because I wanted to rant and didn’t want to stink up the serious threads.
I find it fucking hilarious that anyone thinks I’m sacred. I’m pissed off, not afraid.
Mostly over the level of stupid, but also the lack of information, and the ineptitude of a bunch of Japanese.
And the strange thing is they make such bloody good cameras…
Well then…
Why don’t you mossey on over to the serious threads and ask serious questions? THEN, when somebody that actually has an education or years of experience in the subject matter answers you, believe what the fuck they say rather than jumping on the bandwagon with the other ignorant yappy dogs with sarcastic replies or nuh uhhs thats not true! bullshit types of posts.
I’m sure that makes sense to you, but considering that the other…OMG It’s a NUCLEAR DISASTER OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS! PLUS GODZILLA IS GOING TO EAT TOKYO WITH NUCLEAR FIRE COMING OUT HIS ASS!!!..thread IS in the Pit, and you seemed to have ranted the same stupid rants there as here.
But, ok…whatever floats thy boat. I wish you joy of your rants, and perhaps your buddies from the other threads will come in to help you with the kumbyas. Hell, if you are lucky, maybe you can get Le Jac to leave aside his rants on tariffs and outsourcing to join in the fun…that would make it complete, since you would have sucked in just about the entire front rank of 'doper idiots to your cause…
(don’t get your hopes up about Le Jac though…he seems to be focused on outsourcing and tariffs like a dingo watching a human baby…)

IONIZING RADIATION FROM A NUCLEAR POWER PLANT UPWIND 6,000 MILES AWAY! Everyone run for a cover yer ass memo!
Obviously they can’t make a camera that can photograph damaged buildings. If only they knew what was going on, maybe they could spray the water in the right spots.
I asked where the serious threads were, and was told to make one.
Now you are saying there is one. Where is it?
Msimps, general questions, great debates. Go look. Or start one for pete’s sake.
