I’m talking the movie, that is. When Alfredo is in his cups, he muses that “ratatouille” is not a good name for a dish because it sounds like “rat” and “patootie” and that does not sound delicious. How did they handle the near-pun in French? “Rat” in French is still “rat” but the “touille” apparently means “tossed together.” I’m pretty sure “tossed rat” is not the first thing to flash into a Francophone’s mind even when he runs into the word for the first time.
And while I’m on it, both Remy in the movie and Keller with the real thing in the extras, adorned the dish with a stiff green twig-looking thing. What was that? An unchopped chive, perhaps?
