Rather silly question about LOTR (possible spoilers?)

Simple enough question, though I fear the answer maybe terrifically compliated–

Why do elven-made things burn Smeagol/Gollum? I can’t recall it for the life of me.

Many thanks.

Because he’s been corrupted by the Ring, and the Elves are good. That’s very simplified, but the “good” Elven magic doesn’t react well with his being, which is totally infused (like a good tea) with the essence of evil that permeates the Ring.

More like an evil tea, really.
