I try and I try and I try to keep my ears clean. But every so often, the ear-wax-making machine just kicks in to overdrive, and my ear plugs up. So now my left ear is non-functional, except as an earring holder. And the bulb-thingy that I use when I’ve got to do the old power wash is currently AWOL. I know it’s around here somewhere, but I just can’t seem to locate it right now.
So no, I’m not ignoring you. I just can’t hear you. So if you all could just speak up a little, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks.
I disavow any responsibility but a nurse once told me I could use a water pik set on low to irrigate my ear canals. I soften the wax with a little perixode then wash. Be warned that when you break through the wax you’ll think there is a hurricane inside your head.
Another possiblity is a regular Monoject irrigation syringe. I’ve never found one in a drug store but hobby shops sell them for dispensing glue. Work much better than the rubber bulbs.
Take a capful of peroxide and turn your head sideways. Pour it in and let it bubble and fizz in there for about a minute. Don’t let any spill out until the minute is done.
Take a Q-tip and clean it out. Usually it will take two or three because it is still really wet. You will notice that you can actually hear better.
I wouldn’t do this all the time though because earwax is the only defense your ears have from bugs and bacteria. IANAD, but repeated use might make your ears more prone to infection.
Are you currently taking any medications? Some promote earwax production as an unlisted side-effect.
For me, it’s always the same ear that is the offender. It used to be the ear that’d get all those nasty childhood ear infections - god I had lots of those! I’ve tried the bulb thing, and it never works.
I second the motion of getting yourself a large serynge - and yes, it sounds like a freakin’ train is rushing through your ear, but its well worth it.
To prevent further problems, try a few drops of mineral oil in your ear every day after you shower… helps soften the wax.
Best of luck… errr… BEST OF LUCK! HOPE YOU CAN HEAR US SOON.
I’ve heard your regular air pumps at any gas station ought to do the trick on that nasty ear build-up. People may gawk and stare, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.
Failing that, maybe it’s time to make a few more candles!
I have the same Earwax building factories. Mine never bother me unless I get the interior of my ears wet…so now I wear earplugs when I swim. That’s really annoying, since I was a competitive swimmer for 7 years…probably why the wax never built up until I got to college. It’s really annoying, isn’t it?
