So, my sister has been pet sitting some rats and I had such fun playing with her temporary pets* that I decided to get some new babies of my own to fill up the rat-shaped hole in my life after the last one I had.
So this morning, I called a pet store, and after a very short meeting where I instantly fell in love, I brought home theseguys…
Say Hello to Sigfried and Tristan.
(I just had to brag )
*I very nearly ended up taking them myself, it’s a long story, and I am still not happy about it:mad:
I know it’s prejudice but as someone from the country I can’t see rats or mice as pets. To me that would be like keeping a cockroach as a pet. They’re cute enough, I guess, but I would’ve gone for a guinea pig or chinchilla.
Yup, they are super sweet, Triss gives me kisses, and Siggy like to nuzzle me.
I’ve tried to explain to people that fancy rats =/= wild rats, with indifferent sucess. But I’ve been called crazy before!
I had a dream the other night, in which the person I was hanging out with explained to someone else that this here rat was her dentist. So naturally I opened my mouth and the rat stuck its head in and gave my gums a thorough cleaning.
Maybe you can train them to do useful things like that.
The boys are currently sacked out in Sig’s favorite sleeping spot..they could give a rats.. well, you know, that Mom has to go to work to keep 'em in rat pellets!
We got three new rats over the last weekend, after the previous pair died. They are intelligent and make decent pets, especially for my 11 year old daughter, who is enjoying doing the training this time around. There’s one of the three who is significantly more skittish than the other two, but she’s handling him well and he’s coming around.
