This probably deserves a pitting. Ray Nagin has been indicted by a federal grand jury on 21 counts of fraud, money laundering, etc., in the finest New Orleans tradition. Can’t say I’m surprised, but what a fucking sleeze.
The articles notes that while Governors, Lt Governors, Senators, Congressmen, state legislators, city councilmen, judges, district attorneys, highway superintendents, insurance commissioners, police officials, tax assessors, university presidents, and school board members from Louisiana have all be indicted in the past, this is the first time a Mayor of New Orleans has been charged. So Ray Nagin can be proud he broke new ground.
As a Chicagoan, I’ve long appreciated the way New Orleans makes our civil servants look respectable.
I was a student at Tulane when Katrina hit. Nagin, I hope they put you away for life in Angola prison.
Obvious question. We don’t hear anything about big scandals from, say South Carolina, Iowa, or Colorado.
Is there something about New York, Illinois, and Lousiana?
As Earl Long said, Louisiana has the best state legislature that money can buy. When I lived there all three candidates for Agricultural commissioner were either under indictment or had served time. So, my reaction was, what took them so long?
Well the Colorado Secretary of State, Scott Gessler is apparently working on that. Soon we’ll just as corrupt as the big boys.
I offer a friendly amendment: Make that life in a prison in Angola.
Big cities make for big opportunities.
Ever heard of NJ?
(And that’s without any big cities, either.)
Well, South Carolina did secede that one time…
Hey, Angola is not so bad. If you really want punish him, send him to Texas.
Yes, I know Angola is a prison in Louisiana…
