Razor blades compatible with Gillette handles

Once upon a time, I could find non-Gillette razor blade cartridges that were compatible with Gillette Atra or Trac II handles. These are old handles which I’m fairly sure are no longer protected by patents. But I can’t find them any more. That is, I can’t find those made by non-Gillette companies. The Gillette ones are still available.

I can think of three possibilities:

  1. It’s no longer profitable for these other companies to make them
  2. They’re still out there, but the stores I go to don’t carry them anymore.
  3. P&G (who bought Gillette some time back) somehow put the hammer down on these other companies to keep them from making them. Probably just threatened to sue them into the ground.

Anyone know which of these is correct?

I’m pretty sure that I’ve seen non-Gillette replacement blades in stores and am finding them (from Personna and Wilkinson Sword) on Amazon.

Kmart’s website listed private-label replacement blades for the Atra and Trac II razors.
