Razor Burn, Chemical Burn and Ingrown Hairs (yes TMI)

Best Post to Location combination ever.

Ever.

Yes! You should! Bring a camera. A few of them. This girl-unity must be DOCUMENTED! Be sure to go heavy with the tequila…you know…to loosen up inhibitions properly…and…completely.

Winston, I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that saw that. This…this is a perfect thread.

I’m just glad to post here. Yessiree I am.

Oh my god that is embarrassing. You know, as of last Saturday I don’t even work for Home Depot anymore. There isn’t one where I’m moving. I was going to change my location today but I think I’ll wait until this thread dies. It may be embarrassing but it’s funny as hell.

It’s hard to wax your own bikini line since you have to pull against the hair and figure out which direction the hair is growing but it can be done, although it’s hard. But its easier to get it it done from someone else because they can pull it off and have a better vantage point in doing it especially if you want a brazillian wax which it sounds like you do. Or what melrose said. I can do my own legs and now hair does not grow there anymore but I always prefer to have my bikini/brazillian done by my waxer.

I was recommended this stuff by the lady who does my bikini waxing, and I have to say it does work. I have the same problems as the OP with irritation (as well as an extreme dislike of pubic hair, especially now that it’s decided to turn white, fer chrissakes)

As delphica mentions, you should try the Tend Skin on a not-so sensitive area first. I was skeptical that it would work on the ingrown hairs, but it really does seem to help. You should use it regularly, starting even before you wax the area.

I also concur with using the term “brazilian” to find a professional in your area. I’m lucky - the woman I go to is excellent and it only hurts for a second or two. And with the Tend Skin, all is good afterward too.

Really, waxing is not that bad. And the hair grows back thinner. I’ve never ‘done’ myself, though - always used a professional. I was very scared the first time, and for me it really didn’t hurt at all. YMMV. And the kind you want is called a Brazilian - if they ask, you want to go ‘all the way’.

The thing about waxing is that you have to wait for the hairs to get long enough to be pulled out, usually about 2 weeks of growth before a wax.

Now, I don’t know where you get razor bumps, and I don’t want to ask. I’ve known the hell of grow-in myself. But if you can live with shaving the parts that don’t tend to get irritated with re-growth (and I found those to be the ‘main’ bits) and keeping the rest trimmed down as close as possible with a trimmer, you might be happy. And they do make little trimmers for down there.

I don’t get the no-hair thing, but you and my ex-boyfriend have a lot in common.

How effective is waxing in terms of complete hair removal? I’ve tried waxing legs and eyebrows myself, but there was always a stray hair or 2 left.

My friend had her legs waxed at a salon, and she still had a lot of stray hairs on her legs. Enough so that, to me, the waxing seemed pretty pointless- painful, expensive, and you still had hair to deal with. Was her waxer just bad?

When I get my eyebrows done (most common waxing I do) there are usually a few hairs left that the (waxer?) goes after, first with the wax she just used and then with tweezers. Then scissors so that the hair that’s left looks pleasing … it’s the full meal deal. I wouldn’t worry about a few stray eyebrow hairs, that seems pretty normal.

I can’t imagine paying someone to wax my legs (that’s expensive!) and then walking out with a bunch of hair still on there - sounds like she got a bad deal.

Yes, I would say on the bad side. A good waxer will get the vast majority of the hair, and then investigate closely to seek out any strays. She should even ask you to look (I guess people are naturally more vigilant about their own hair) and take care of anything that you point out. You should walk out of the salon with no hairs. However, the thing about hair growth is that your hairs are on their own cycles, so as it grows back, there are going to be some that sprout more quickly than others, but this is generally not as quickly as they would grow back after shaving.
