Ewan McGregor did help the Boba Fett boy in Episode 2. He has even spoken about how Lucas did not direct the kid at all and the kid had no idea how to react to seeing Obi-Wan the first time. McGregor told him to look at him like he just farted.
Natalie Portman was a child in Phantom Menace, you realize. She has spoken about how much she hated being on that set and how it affected her own performance. I would not ask her to direct/advise a child.
Liam Neeson? I think the scenes where he speaks to Jake Lloyd are adequate. I don’t know if he had a chance to guide the young actor much.
i still think lucas should have taken larry kasdan up on his offer to do the films which he would of done for almost nothing simply because he loved doing rotj supposedly
You cannot punch down when saying virtually anything about Hollywood films. Almost nothing in our culture is as privileged as they are.
Did you notice that, if you scrolled down, the very next headline on the OP’s link was “Stephen Dorff slams ‘garbage’ superhero movies, Marvel’s ‘Blade’ reboot: ‘We already did it and made it the best’”? Shouldn’t we all be shouting about the utter cynicism of audience-puffing fan movie remakes and reboots?
Yes, the Razzies crossed a line with the nomination of a child actor. No, I’ve never paid any more attention to them than reading the annual article. Maybe they’ve always been stupid, maybe they’ve passed their sell-by date. Mostly, though, I think they should be ten times as long as they are and front-page news in every paper and better watched than the Oscars.
They are actors. Doesn’t mean they can teach acting or direct. And of note (in my opinion) the best performances were by Ewan McGregor and he watched Alec Guinness’ performance in the original Star Wars and effectively directed himself.
It is in the second and third one, where she is passable. No one thrives in these movies except Ewan McGregor and Ian McDiarmid, both actors who can probably direct themselves well enough. Even Sam Jackson as Mace Windu is nothing but boring.
Even Liam Neeson is just “boring man” in the first movie.
Acting and directing are two different jobs that require different skills. Just as a good director is unlikely to be a good actor, a good actor isn’t necessarily a good director.
Besides, it’s hard work. Even if someone has both skills, it doesn’t mean that E can necessarily do both at the same time.
That’s a great scene, and in a similar vein we can see the real-life dynamic nature of Liam Neeson and his sheer versatility, a young actor can learn a lot from him.
You know, I just checked…the youngest Oscar winner (for any competitive category, but the award was for Best Supporting Actress) was 10 years old.The youngest nominee was 8 years old.
And I’m seeing a bunch of nominees who weren’t old enough to drive, and a decent subset of those who were young enough to still have some baby teeth.
Razzies are fine for knocking some cast and crew down a couple of pegs. Kids aren’t in that group. Kids shouldn’t be in movies anyway. Don’t we have animatronic children for that?
I follow Stephen King on Twitter and he mentions his movies coming out, so I was aware. They’ve redone Pet Semetary and a few other things recently that kind of just came out and were barely noticed. I think Salem’s Lot has a new version coming or did come out recently?
I knew about it only because it was being heavily promoted on Peacock or whatever streaming service it was on. IIRC it was available to stream at the same time it was in theaters. I watched it just because I’m a fan of Stephen King, especially his early stuff, without having seen any of the reviews. I agree that the movie wasn’t very good, but I don’t remember thinking there was anything wrong with Armstrong’s performance. It’s not her fault she was cast in a bad movie.
