I only tried Online the very first day of release, just to see if it was going to work for me. I got a couple hours in without a problem. Since then I have tried to get on once or twice but didn’t get on at all after 10+ minutes and went back to Arthur.
Any idea what kind of cut Steam tends to get?

About 30% for the first 10 million in sales, then 25% until the 50 million mark, and 20% after that. This is the new pricing structure as of last year - prior to that it was a flat life-time 30%, with some exceptions made for small studios.
I imagine that now that Steam has more competition they lowered their cut to entice developers away from other platforms.
A heads-up for those that might need it: If you think you might want something other than the standard edition of the game, front the money for it. There are no upgrades possible to go to a higher tier after purchase. Much to my chagrin.
My constant disconnects seem to have died down a bit- though last night I couldn’t get my camp pitched, for some reason. I just switched over and played some more story mode instead, figured I’d try again today.
How odd. Usually on Steam they’d sell a “Season Pass,” maybe it will come later?

So, Steam went from being friendlier to small studios to being friendlier to big studios? Have they been making other moves in the same direction? I guess they want to lower the inventive big studios might have to launch their own digital distribution services like EA did.
Well I don’t think there is anyway to guess how this game will go medium or even long term. It is no secret the mind-blowing success of GTA online was a surprise to everyone, and ripped the shit out of the whole AAA game industry. Even Rockstar isn’t clear how it happened once, but are determined to do everything they can to try to make it happen it again, ie. try to figure out some way to make RDR Online into something they can manage to get a billion dollars a year for half a decade, with minimal development effort.
I think all the Big ones have their own now. EA, Ubisoft, Bethesda, Blizzard, and now Rockstar.
Speaking of runaway successes, above, Steam was such a game changer and money farm for Valve, they see their can’t miss IPs like Half-life 3 and Portal 3, like a millionaire looking at a 100$ bill that landed on his shoe, and deciding it isn’t worth the effort of bending over for.
Half-Life 3 will probably never be made. Portal 3 is possible but unlikely. Marc Laidlaw’s leaving in January of 2017 pretty much was the death knell of that universe, since he was the guy that wrote most of the story for it. Laidlaw has even revealed some of the plot that they were going to take the games in, and Valve didn’t even blink at the reveal.
Here’s a pretty good article from a year ago that gives the current state of that universe. It seems to be as up-to-date as anything. The fact that it’s a year ago lend even more credence to the idea that HL is dead. (Granted, I didn’t search all that hard, so there’s possibly something newer.)
One note folks folks who are putting off buying it for now . There is some new role content on the online stuff, which takes a decent amount of buy-in to start. Of of the new roles is called collector and requires 15 g9ld bars to get started. But It seems if you also play GTA online, and collect all the cards the yhid several months ago, you get it for free. I wish I had known to take care of that before I got the game when i was bored, so heads up people, you can get that anytime it seems.
So it seems I was wrong. The Rockstar promotions make it seems like you can, but it is apparently just not available on PC in, for some secret reason. Sorry if any one tried, but ticket response just says “screw you, sucker”.

I’m not sure how many people are playing online on PC, but was wondering if any bounty hunter solo-ers have been ruining into an issue where it just gets to damn hard on the legendary bounties 3 stars and above, and want to posse up. It’s not like an mmo raid or anything, but curious if anyone wants to try the higher stars sometime.

I’m still playing. been playing a damn load more that I expected with a work slow down. I was racing through it a bit faster than I really wanted to for a game I had looked forward to for so long, so switched to Online, to save the story for a time when I more in a mood to savor. Really been racing through that as well. I don’t know of any posse though.
I’m struggling to find elk to hunt. Just a regular one so I can craft some of the satchels. Everything I see online says to hunt near cattail pond, but I don’t seem to find them there. What’s the deal???
That is where I found them most abundant. But never had too much of a problem finding them anywhere in Ambarino.

I’m not sure where you are in your story progression, but there are tons of elk northeast of Brandywine drop. You’ll see where the rail road crosses the river, there is a little island and a water fall right there. Just set up camp on the west side of the shore, north of the rail road tracks and you’ll see a lot of elk, deer and moose. Also, the occasional cougar, if I remember correctly. It’s pretty much the northeast border of the map, but it’s easy to get to since you can just follow the train tracks all the way up.
Just white tail deer and white tail bucks. But there are other deer-like animals, such as pronghorns and sheep of course.

Every time I see the thread title, I know it’s RDR2, but my brain keeps SEEING “R2D2” and I find the concept of a squat Astromech droid exploring the “Ooooolllldd West” utterly hilarious
