I want to start re-mixing songs, not for release, but just for fun. I am working with a SAW Plus program. Can anyone give me any tips or hints or steer me toward any guides to re-mixing? Anyone have any experience doing this?
I’ve not uses Saw Plus but it sounds like you want to take commercial recordings and remix them. I’m not sure you can do that. Your recording only has two tracks, the left and right stereo tracks. So you can’t remove instruments. For example, if you wanted to replace the drum track with a more danceable version you could overlay a drum track but not eliminate the original. Can’t remove vocals to make a karaoke version (although there are methods to do that with commercial recordings). Saw Plus supports editing but also assumes that you have access to the original tracks, i.e., you recorded them yourself.
Can you elaborate on what kind of remixing you want to do?
Yep CWG hit it on the head. To remix you’ll need access to the raw tracks. Without those you are limited only to adding new layers. 9/10 of the time, only additional drums sound good on already finished tracks.
