Re-watching Friends

Thirded.

(and it co-stars the fabulous Tamsin Greig, from the hysterical Black Books)

(and yes, Episodes was on Showtime)

The entire cast was terrific, as was every episode. The fight between LeBlanc and the writer had me in tears.

So many great bits on that show. One that stands out to me is when Matt’s money guy got arrested for stealing his clients’ money, and the two writers were consoling him about losing all his money. Matt corrects them that the guy stole half his money.

It was just so funny watching them squirm, with the expression “so you’re still filthy rich; suck it up buttercup” written all over their faces.

Not to continue to hijack the thread, but Episodes had a great gag I always loved during the last season. When Matt starts hosting the game show where a group of people are living in boxes to see who can last the longest. The contestants are voted on by the general public and can be rewarded or punished based on their vote totals.

One of the contestants who comes in last gets punished by having to spend two hours with Gilbert Gottfried while Gilbert reads from the Bible. Gilbert reading one of the genealogy sections of the Bible in his screechy monotone always tickles me.

I just saw a bit on the news showing Courteney Cox getting her star on the Walk of Fame. Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow presented it to her and once again I find myself saying “wow, Jennifer Aniston seems bitter and unpleasant, just like on the reunion show and the last 4 seasons of Friends”.

Friends was one of my favorite shows when it was first aired. The other night I was looking for something easy to watch before I go to sleep and thought I’d try watching Friends again. I could barely get through the first episode. It was just one gag line after another. But it was the pilot, so maybe I should dive back in.

Yes, you should! The show really didn’t click in the first couple of episodes, I think.

You’re probably right. I loved it the first time around!

You could jump forward to where Ross gets a monkey.

 Those are the only episodes that have stuck in my mind!

I had the same opinion of the pilot when it first aired. My wife really liked the show so we watched more and by the end of the first season it had some legs. Every one of the actors were quite good as sitcom actors go.

Agreed. Early on, though, they just seemed to be trying a bit too hard.

I think that’s it!

Why Jennifer Grey only guested once:

I wondered / was disappointed why she wasn’t in the wedding episode. I feel for her, but I certainly couldn’t tell; she was great in her brief appearance as Mindy.

Agreed. I always liked her.

Any idea why they (almost) always seem to skip over the first episode of season 10 on TBS? Other than one run thru when they specifically said they were showing EVERY EPISODE and I made sure to check and they did indeed show it that time, they seem to jump from the last epidsode of seaseon 9 to the second episode of season 10. It’s weird because it makes for an odd jump in continuity where Joey and Rachel close season 9 kissing in Barbados, and episode 2 of season 10 opens with them in their apartment in a similar situation, but being caught by Ross.

Once I saw Nick at Nite also skipped this episode, to what gives? Someone get butthurt by Monica “appropriating” corn rows in her hair or some other minor thing triggering morons?

Fortunately, the episode was still available on HBOMax, and I assume still is on Max.

Whenever something like that happens, I assume there was a song in the episode that they couldn’t get clearance to use that time around. But maybe not.

Without a reason given, according to the Friends Wiki, “This episode is currently missing from both Nick At Nite U.S. and TBS U.S. reruns as of 2022.”

Yet I recently saw it on an airplane.
