It’s the I Read Banned Books bracelet.
WAAANT.
I don’t particularly like jewelry, but WAAAAAAAANT.
Whoa! That is awesome! Solves my dilemma for one person’s Christmas gift for sure.
Cool.
But what are the seven books? Dunno I’d want to get it just to find out it has the Marquis de Sade as the other five books.
I own all of two bracelets, neither of which I have ever worn in my life, but I really want that.
My parents thank you for giving me something to put on my Christmas list.
I’d rather have the ‘Lead Me Not Into Temptation’ shirt linked at the bottom.
I love to read but no, I don’t want that at all.
I just got a Signals catalog yesterday, and I, too, drooled over that bracelet.
I loooove this shirt.
So would it have killed them to have listed ALL the books?
Although it must have been a stretch, finding seven books that have been actually banned in the US (yeah, I know it didn’t say that).
I was surprised at that, too. Still, as far as I’m concerned the rest can be the worst books in the world. I still want the bracelet.
I SO look forward to getting that magazine. It takes me hours to get through it! And I saw that bracelet too and loved it. I just don’t wear bracelets.
From http://www.amazon.com/I-Read-Banned-Books-Bracelet/dp/B000I3P9JG:
“The titles on my bracelet are Howl, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Color Purple, Go Ask Alice, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Annie On My Mind.”
Are Signals and Wireless connected with NPR and PBS? Or am I imagining things?
Banned recently, maybe not, but there have been a large number of books and authors that have been challenged and protested against within the last few years. In some of the links, it gives a narrative listing prominent challenges to the book and its circulation/use in schools and libraries. People have been fired over the issue of book choice before, and it’s still happening.
Apparently PBS, at least here, but I am not sure why. I have never donated to them. But the magazine is wonderful!
Thanks so much for the tip!
It’s perfect for a certain someone I know who’s name was spoken during the speeches at the Giller Prize!
It’s perfect, thanks again!
Do you have to have read all 7 of the books to buy it? I have only read 3 of them.
Cute bracelet though.
I think I have a problem with that bracelet. Go Ask Alice. You have got to be kidding me. Who considered that book worth banning?
From wikipedia:
“Worth” is relative, I suppose.
That’s only six. If the seventh turns out to be Ulysses I’ll buy one.
The bracelet itself looks uncomfortable - check out those little metal loops sticking straight out from the back of the pieces. Try writing or typing while wearing it and you’ll have those jabbing you in the underside of the wrist and leaving dents in your skin. Plus those are there to hold thin elastic in place, which is what holds the bracelet together. Sooner or later, that elastic will probably snap or degrade.
It would have added to the cost, but flat pieces with links between them and a traditional clasp - maybe with removable clasp-links like many watches have - would have made it a much nicer and more long-lasting item.
