Loved, loved, loved, loved, loved it. Most of my friends hated, hated, hated, hated, hated it.
I also devoured her autobiography, “Giving up the Ghost” and “Fludd.” What think ye of Mantel?

My only Mantel experience was A Place of Greater Safety, her novel about the French Revolution. IMHO the book sucked all the juice out of it. No mean feat, considering the wonderful characters she had to work with.
Probably my expectations were too high. That always trips me up. I’ve stopped reading reviews.
I enjoyed it, while I was reading it, but I don’t think I’ll be buying it or rereading it anytime soon. It was okay, but not fantastic, to me.
In her autobio Mantel more or less sez that she knows her French revolution book sucked. She worked on in for something like 22 years
Time spent writing might be my new criteria for choosing a book. I heard that Elizabeth Kostova spent ten years on The Historian, and that one sucked too.
