Reading OSX formatted HD with Vista machine

Hello all

I have a new Acer laptop with Vista Premium. I also have 2 LaCie external Firewire drives (250 GB) upon which I keep my music and graphic design libraries.

I have a PC card with a Firewire jack on it. So physically connecting to the drive won’t be an issue.

The drives, however, are formatted Mac OS X extended (Journaled). Will there be any issues for Vista to see the files, and is there any way to change the format without losing the data contained therein?

Thanks in advance!

Unless this has changed since XP, and I can’t see why they would have done it, you’ll need to get a third party program because (in XP at least) there is no support. There are two I think, and they are annoying in their limitations. Macdrive and Macdisk do this for XP, but on Vista, I’m not so sure they’ll work as they change very low-level parts of the OS to make this possible, I think. But it’s worth a try. Oh, and make sure that you treat them as read-only because you don’t want Vista screwing up your HFS drives

Here’s a third: MacOpener from the DataViz folks.
