This may be better suited for some other forum, but my question is not so full of bile as to warrant The Pit, and I rarely ever go there anyway soooo…
Do any of you post replies to threads without reading the existing replies? Sometimes I see replies that seem to be either stating something exactly as it was said before in the thread, or hitting WAY off topic. I am differentiating between this and simulposts by the way, so it’s not that. I just think it’s pretty rude to post like that. I mean, if you don’t have time to read the whole thread, don’t bother posting to it. Right?

Yeah, yeah. So anyway, getting back to the subject, what’s the deal with this evolution stuff? I ain’t kin to no damn monkey. Maybe them Washington liberals are, but not me, by God.
It’s been tempting to just jump in and reply to threads without reading them; then I could have my say and feel the incredible power of having posted without bothering to notice that other people have made the same point with much more style, wit, and intelligence than I could.
If you don’t notice me much in GD, it’s because I don’t follow that temptation…

John, ditto your sentiment. I remember reading all 11 pages(dunno what it is now) of “The earth is flat…” thread wanting desperately to post until I saw that everything I wanted to say had been said already. Damn!
Hey Demo, we’ve covered this before. Do you ever read the other topics posted here, or do you just jump in and post the same OP’s that have been already posted multiple times? I just think it’s pretty rude to post OP’s like that. I mean, if you don’t have time to read the whole board, don’t bother posting to it. Right?
I’m going to change your name to Dirty Bastard instead of Dirty Devil. Well, if I didn’t think it was really weak to post a reply after every OTHER reply in a thread started by oneself, I’d reply to that. But, since I do think that is so lame, I refuse to respond!
So there!
BTW, yes, I would like to drink some beers tonight!

Here’s my two cents: It’s been tempting to just jump in and reply to threads without reading them; then I could have my say and feel the incredible power of having posted without bothering to notice that other people have made the same point with much more style, wit, and intelligence than I could.

(With apologies to John Corrado. Heh)
not guilty. i’m not going to be interested in replying if i’m not also interested enough to read the whole thing. &, yeah, it is annoying.
another one that gets me is nonsense replies when someone has a genuine problem. there have been a lot of threads & individual posts lately from folks attacked by the holiday enforced happiness bug. they are seeing the difference between their own real but sometimes sad lives & the toothpaste smiley, 500 gifts around the xmas tree kind of lives in the advertisements, & they’re getting seriously bummed.
they post & they get quick fix, coverup responses instead of attempts to help the poster work on the root cause. light heartedness is a really good thing, but some of the responses are so off the wall, they are little more than a waste of bandwidth. then they pop on to other threads for more drivebys. {sigh} i think this particular thing is probably more the fact that many people really don’t know how to deal w/ other people’s problems. you know, no one really wants to know how you are when they ask you how you are.
and, gramps, just drink your cider. you know peanuts give you gas.
The purpose of life is to matter, to count, to have it make a difference you lived at all.
Agree on most counts, and have been guilty my own self of some. (Not the peanuts and gas thing, though.)
Just as an aside, sometimes posts spawn related posts and after having read all of them, I find it hard to remember exactly which poster said what on which one. So I end up stupidly but earnestly making the same point.
There’s probably a medical term for this: post confusion? thread burn? Well, whatever.
I try to read all the thread…but I went over to the debate page…geesh…the thread I wanted to post to had 11 pages already…so I read the first six…and then I posted my thoughts…which evidently weren’t what the author of the thread wanted to hear cause he actually answered me out of all those posters.
john corr., actually never read much phaedras wrote. don’t go into that part of the sdmb territory much.
it’s really my do-gooder tendencies. it’s an affliction. there should be a support group. i did 10 yrs of peer counselling, sometimes on the phone 15 hrs/day (one of my maannny careers). i understand too well the small attention span window you have when trying to help people. the ‘i don’t have a clue how to help you but i’m w/ you all the way’ & then they’re gone kinda answer makes my eyes roll back.
but, sorry, demo. didn’t mean to take this off into neverneverland. another one of those annoying things, huh?

Is it just me that thinks this, or should there theoretically only be two replies to this post–one that agrees with the OP, and one that disagrees? Anything more is, well, redundant.
TennHippie: good one! Three beats behind the measure (i.e. already clicked the “submit” button) the best godawful, groaner possiblity hit. What about Post Toasties?
