real download help

I’m trying to download a big file (33637k), and it says it’s going to take about 13 hours.

My first problem is that it occasionally times out, so while I’ve gone out thinking that it’s downloading, it’s actually stopped. Is there any way to fix this?

My second and more frustrating problem is that sometimes in the middle of downloading, it will stop as if it was finished the clip(this time at 42%). I have to start downloading all over again to get the full clip. Is there any way to get it to start again where it stopped?

any help, guys and gals?

Download GetRight. It’s a program that automatically resumes timed-out downloads, among other things. Very handy.

I haven’t tried GetRight, but my friends and I swear by Download Accelerator Plus (DAP). It not only lets you resume downloads, it also speeds them up tremendously by downloading from all possible mirrors simultaneosly. I routinely get 300KB/s on a cable modem. However, you can’t use it to download video card drivers. You can get it at www.speedbit.com

thanks!

bear in mind that some sites will ban your ip if you do multiple downloads - one of getright’s features is to split the file up into many segments to increase download speed - be sure to turn this off.

I’m going to download GetRight. Ironically, I’m using Real Download to do it.
