Oh - and let me add the Nook Color cable to the fray. We bought my father-in-law one for his birthday. It says right on the packaging that you can’t charge this from the computer, just using the wall plug. OK fine, annoying that you can’t trickle-charge it while you’re downloading, but that’s common.
What I’ve also found is that unless it’s the Nook brand cable, you can’t charge the Nook even using the wall plug. My Droid phone has identical connectors, but I can’t share cables - the Nook won’t charge from the Droid cable and the Droid won’t charge from the Nook cable. So clearly there’s something funky in the wires.
The Nook will, however, connect to a computer (for USB file transfers) just fine with an off-brand cable.
Can I have a moderate hijack (just a little, I promise!).
Earbuds are seriously uncomfortable to me- at least the standard Apple ones. That said, I’m going on an 11 hour plane ride in a few weeks and I’d like to have some tunes. Can anybody suggest some decent earphones? I’m down to try other buds, so long as they are maybe the kind with the squishy thing that goes in your ear, not the hard plastic.
Obviously, extra points if whatever you suggest is cheap.
The squishy earbuds are good. They’re also removeable, so you can also order a set of different sizes to see what you like. Skullcandy is a decent mid-level brand ($11 buds here). Coby seems a bit cheaper ($5 buds here). Here are the Comply foam covers - they’re a bit more expensive ($15 for set of 3), and I can’t find anything cheaper. My buds came with them, and I prefer them over the silicone - they just stay in better (link).
