I just heard the most hideous version of a re-make on the radio.
It’s “Heaven” by DJ Sammy & Yanou f/ Do.
This was given a hyper, uptempo, synthesized, girl group,
club sound.
“Heaven” was originally done and written by Bryan Adams.
It was done as a love song, nice and slow, good for dancing,
or love-making.
I hope Bryan Adams didn’t listen to this awful re-make
and hope he got paid really well for this P.o.C. re-make.
I guess whoever the hell this is who made this wanted to get
a hip sound to get the young people listening to it.
All I have to say is YUCK.
Why can’t when someone does a re-make, they would have respect for the original version. I wouldn’t have minded a girl version, if it had been a resemblense to the Bryan Adams song.
Jim Carrey screeching and bleating his way through “I Am The Walrus,” which was on the album of Beatles covers that George Martin produced a few years back.
Moby’s cover of “Thats When I reach for My Revolver”
anything on the “Spagetti incident” Moby’s cover of “New Dawn Fades”
any lame punk pop bank covering a gansta rap song Madonna’s “American Pie”
Madonna’s Evita (does that count?) Alana Davis covering Ani’s “32 Flavors” (and adding a f&*king chorus) Orgy’s “Blue Monday”
I swear there used to be a version of Tracy Chapman’s “Sorry is all that you can’t say” (think that’s the title) covered by Neil Sedaka that played daily on the Musak at a store I worked at in college.
William Shatner also did some horiffic Beatles covers he sings just like he acts download his version of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and you’ll see/hear what I mean.
Tiffany I Think We’re Alone Now Madonna American Pie. Now, I actually quite like Madonna but this song had all its original soul surgically removed. Unbelievably dull. Atomic Sex Kitten Eternal Flame - Why? Decent pop love song, but does it really need to be done again? In almost exactly the same style?
And somebody is currently doing a remake of Madonna’s “Like a Prayer.” Suffice to say, they’ve done to it what Madonna’s done to McLean’s American Pie, so I guess that’s karma for ya.
Someone remade Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” and it was absolutely hideous.
There are a couple of great cover song threads on Fametracker* if anyone’s interested.
*I have no affiliation with Fametracker…less than 100 posts in over 2 years, for chrissakes.
Not that i’m disagreeing with you, but who has done this?
I’ll be first to nominate All Saints doing Under the Bridge (Red Hot Chili Peppers). The Corrs doing Everybody Hurts (R.E.M.). Limp Bizkit doing Faith (George Michael) - not that the original was any good.
I remember some hirrible cover of “Boyz in tha Hood” last year, for one, and a coupld of years ago, Third Eye Blind once did “Today was a Good Day”, and (while i guess this isn’t gangsta)some Ska band did “the Humpty Dance”…
I always forget to mention it in these threads , but theres a great website about cover songs at www.coversproject.com. It’s actually one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. great resource.
The cover of Boyz in tha Hood was done by Dynamite Hack. I like it. Especially the allusion to Blackbird at the end.
The “remake” of In Your Eyes that I believe you guys are referring to is done by Jeffrey Gaines. It gets a lot of radio play. And I like it too It’s not so much a traditional cover, IMO. Alot of bands do covers in concert that they have no intention of playing anywhere else (I have the Barenaked Ladies doing “Buddy Holly” by Weezer, for example). I’m assuming that this is what happened to this guy: played it in concert (quite a few bands do requests for this sort of thing), got bootlegged, bam, gets radio play.
Leonard Nimoy did at least seven or eight albums. You don’t know what wanting to jam white-hot knitting needles into your ears is really like until you’ve heard his version of “I Walk The Line.”
