Really cool (street)map of the US

Found this really neat mapof the US, which is based on each and every street in the lower 48.

Just thought I’d share it with you.

Funny looks just like this map that has been out for years.

I wonder what the deal is with some of those square-shaped sections (counties?) in or around Kansas. It looks like there are plenty of roads in surrounding areas, but then all of a sudden there’s nothing in those counties.

At the bottom of the page: “The white blocks seem to be rural routes and unnamed roads, their alignment to lat/lon boundaries suggests differences in how adjacent counties identify streets.”

There’s a description of parts of it at the bottom, which includes the Kansas bit:

ETA: Which is exactly what **GorillaMan **said

Cool map Edward, didn’t know about that one.

Oh yeah…what WormTheRed said!

Looks like they’re based on a reverse of this type of image.
US

Note that the images created from light emitted still need to plot on separately coastlines - the road data doesn’t need this. It also shows much more clearly geographical features such as mountain ranges, with major roads functioning rather like contour lines on a map.
