Really Free Checking -- Getting What You Pay For

Fucking Asswipe Bank! I order checks weeks before I need them, and they’re free, because I have “Really Free Checking”. So what do the idiots do? Do they send my checks to my home address, the address on the re-order form – THE ADDRESS I VERIFIED WITH THEM WHEN I CALLED?

No.

They send the checks to my previous address. I don’t know where they dug that address up – not even the junk mail goes there anymore.

So now I’m without checks. Got to find a branch still open and have some counter checks made. Also have to get some cash – I don’t have an ATM card.

And in the middle of posting this, they call my cell phone (how did they get that number?) to tell me they found the problem, the address was correct in one place, and incorrect in another.

Why do they have more than one database with my info in it? Obviously so they can screw up like this.

Morons.

To err is human but to really fuck things up you need a computer.

Oooh, I feel ya, Danalan. My bank fouled up the delivery of my new bank card, so I’m without at the moment. My old one expired last Thursday. On top of that, I was stupid and forgot to activate my new credit card while I was at my parents’ house last weekend. So, I’m left with checks and coins (neither of which meets the convenience of my bank card).

Damnit! The -exact- same thing happened to me two months ago! The kicker? The checks apparently were sent to my old address and NEVER GOT DELIVERED. I wanted to club the bank manager to death. Had to pay my rent in CASH, which my landlord did not like one bit!

I hate banks, all of them. Service is normally piss poor…around here they actually FINGERPRINT you if you want to cash a check drawn from their bank and do not have an account there. You’re made to feel like a criminal the moment you enter the parking lot.

I worked at a bank as a teller for a short time. We did this, but only on checks over a certain amount, and only if you didn’t have an account at the bank. It really didn’t do anything. It was just meant to scare away a few of the weak-willed con-artists.

I’ve run into this before. The snag is with the vendor who prints the checks. They’re the ones with old info. I had the same problem two months ago and when I went to the branch to track down my checks, the branch manager called the vendor and confirmed that the vendor didn’t notice that they shipped the checks to an address other than what they just printed. She then proceeded to rip said vendor a new one as this was the second order that week (This was lunchtime on Tuesday) that the vendor screwed up.

I think in my case both the bank and the check printer were screwed up. The bank admitted having different data in two places. I was trying to refill an order that had the correct info on it, done by the same printer just 6 months ago.

Heh. I first read the subject as “Reality-free Checking.”

Hrrm

Bank needs your current address for your account – secure system(1)

Division of the bank that contracts out check printing needs your address – to give to the pritner (2)

Printer making the checks needs your address (3)

Shipping department needs your address (4)

Bank division that mails the checks out to you personally needs your address – unsecure system(5)

I count 5 different places that need you address.

And considering that your name, account number, SSN, and address are all in one searchable document for the account management… I don’t think you’d want that on each system.
