Please explain, in detail, how I’m acting like a jerk.
Your little “I’m right. I just am. I don’t need to give an explanation. I’m right. You’re wrong. I’m right. Did I say I was right? I’m RIGHT” act looks pretty jerkish from here.
And yes, count me in as someone else who had absolutely no idea what that warning was for until reading the explanation in this thread. My initial reaction was, “wtf, we have a rule against making Yakov Smirnoff jokes now?”
That.
I fucked up! I read this as “I had just gotten home from a 10 hour day at work and I started drinking and after beating my wife I went onto the SDMB and saw that some joker had made a Soviet Russia joke and I FUCKING HATE SOVIET RUSSIA JOKES BAN HIM NOW!” But you were referring to having just gotten off of work now, as in that’s why you hadn’t replied to the thread (and apparently a bunch of PMs). :smack:
Officer, I’d like to speak to my attorney.
But if you’re willing to grant me prosecutorial immunity, you acted weird and overreacted in the original thread and are now acting weird, defensive, aggressive and defiant in this one. YBAMV.
Aw, but this I hate. What’s YBAMV? if you’re going to use an obscure acronym, (one I couldn’t find on Google, by the way) then please explain what it means.
Your Blood Alcohol May Vary?
Otherwise, I got nothin’.
Your Bad Ass May Vent. Eew.
Never mind!
Got it in one. Sorry, I meant to add an * at the end.
Yours was funny.
(I see in preview we’re beyond this now, but I’m going to post what I wrote anyways since it reminded me of it…
A couple of months ago I got slapped (note, not warning) for making a joke in MPSIMS by Twix.
Her note said
To which I replied
She came back with
It always bugged me that if I want to make a joke I first have to know if she has a headache or not.
Now, when someone flat out insults another poster and it turns out to be a pop culture reference that the mod didn’t know was a pop culture reference, they can’t be expected to google ever phrase. I understand when they hand out warnings for that as long as they’re rescinded afterwords. I’ve been caught in the middle of that. (For example if I were to say AClockworkMelon is so effin special, I wish I was special, but I’m a creep) But mods really shouldn’t be modding based on they feel.
My favorite answer to this question…
Driver:Why did you pull me over…what about everyone else that was speeding?
Cop: Have you ever gone fishing?
Driver: Yeah.
Cop: Did you ever catch all the fish.
Driver: Oh.
I like how BOTH of you saw and commented to me about the joke I had before I edited it out.
/me hits on MsWhatsit
No! I’m not being a jerk… I had a long day at work, some beers, and I sure do love boobs.
What?
I generally don’t bother with the Mod Drama™, but Sam seems to have way over-used his powers.
I’ve created a brief chart explaining the situation: http://i.imgur.com/fNsgS.jpg

God. This has me in tears.
This is the second time I’ve seen you use this example. You really must have loved that when it happened. But it didn’t happen to you, it happened to me. Stop stealing my story! You already had your own story with twickster and her headache! Not really, but I find it funny how you’ve attached yourself to that incident.
Anyway, I do think mods need to take special care to not let their mood dictate how they enforce the rules. If their mood does influence how they mod and they make a mistake they need to own up to it.
Samclem, in addition to asking the question of whether Hail Ants broke the rules, I think there are some other questions you should ask:
- How is this particular infraction, and infractions of this severity, normally handled?
- To what extent was this particular infraction a violation of the board’s guiding principle of “don’t be a jerk”?
- What do you think is accomplished by issuing a warning that would not have been accomplished by issuing a mod note?
The answers, IMHO, are:
- Mod note.
- It was only being a jerk to a very small extent.
- Nothing positive was accomplished by issuing a warning that could not have been accomplished by issuing a mod note.
Did I use it before? I have to assume there was an ATMB thread about the South Park thread and I brought it up there then. Well aren’t you fucking special…creep. (That’s a joke people). I actually thought it was ACM come to think of it. I like the reference because it’s a good example. It comes off as a nasty insult. You got warned by Ellen IIRC, we all jumped in and told her it was just some song lyrics and she rescinded the warning. No arguing, no ATMB thread, she didn’t put her foot down, we didn’t have three other mods jumping in to back her up. It was a good example of a mod saying “Whoops, sorry, my bad” (and leaving it at that…some mods have a habit of adding a snarky comment when they rescind a warning).
Actually, it’s like being admonished for jaywalking and having the cop scream in your face that you should never, *ever, EVER DO THIS AGAIN!!! *
Yeah, I guess it’s technically true, but… jeez. Really?
