If by “race” you mean “black people” then no. Treating people equally means understanding that black people are just as capable of being lying, grifting assholes as white people.
If however you mean “the human race”, then yes. Yes he is.

Elder has conceded. By admitting he lost, he just gave up his future in the GOP.
I read one of Elder’s books about 20 years ago. I disagreed with a lot of his takes (and he had a hate-boner for Nancy Pelosi long before most of the rest of the GOP had labeled her their boogeyman du jour), but at the time he supported ending the war on drugs, which I found to be a rare trait in a Republican pundit, and that was at least one point in his favor.
No idea if he still believes that, because any redeeming qualities he once had have since been buried under a combination of absolute libertarianism and a desire to emulate Loser Donald.
Larry got beaten so badly officials are looking at charging Newsome with…

… Elder abuse.
Looks like Newsom got a chance to box Elder last night, in the polls anyway. Of course, since a Democrat won then by definition the vote was illegitimate.
The QOP whining about cheating I assume has already begun. With the margin of victory it reminds me of a soccer game we lost 3-1 and my teammates were complaining about the ref. Dudes, the ref maybe contributed to one goal (he didn’t), but 3-1 means we sucked (at least relatively).
Pretty sure that Elder flat out conceded. As of my typing this, it doesn’t seem that any ‘fraud’ accusations will be coming from him.
No, he will have ‘concerns’ about ‘irregularities’, but I doubt he will go and claim it was stolen.
Note this is assuming the Republican will take the high road. Which…
Whew, I was so afraid to see the news this morning, but all is well. I’m very pleased with the numbers.
I’m rather shocked that Elder isn’t yelling about how this was stolen from him. I guess he didn’t learn as much from Trump as I feared.
Good start to my day.
Modnote: a reminder, we don’t allow Calls to Action. This one is pretty mild, but still is one. I’m removing the Call to Action.
This election was about Republicans feeling out how narrow a margin they need in order to cry foul and challenge the results. I guess they decided 2-1 was a stretch even for them.
I think that, perversely, they’ll also try to take “credit” for conceding the recall (and that some in the press will give it to them). “See, we’re not trying to overturn legitimate election results like the lamestream media has been telling you for months.” Makes them look more reasonable when they do challenge closer (but still legitimate) Democratic wins elsewhere.
An interesting overview, and see the last section as to recall reforms:
I never thought this thing was going to succeed, but I did think it would have been closer; then Larry Elder entered the race, started talking, and became the frontrunner. IMHO if Faulconer ended-up being the frontrunner, and the CA GOP endorsed him, this would have been closer. I still think it would have failed, ultimately, but it would have been a lot more dramatic.
IMHO any heavily blue areas of the country or even purple areas where the GOP is fielding Trump acolytes, the Democrats in those races ought to look at how Newsom capitalized on Trump-fear.
$276 million for nothing. We’re all losers today in that little respect .
But otherwise, good. It’s the result I wanted to see and considering the ridiculousness of this recall challenge, the result that was deserved.
Well, the money DID get injected into California’s economy. Just not in a very directed, helpful way.
Breaking a quarter billion dollars’ worth of windows would have been more economically effective.
Particularly toward the end, Newsom really leaned into Republican opposition to vaccination and mask mandates and other public health measures. As Republicans seem to be consolidating around radical opposition to ANY public health requirements to combat COVID, maybe there really is a groundswell of voters who are sick of anti-vaxx and “muh freedum” assholes continuing to put everyone at risk.
I was visiting some of my very republican relatives last week. I was very pleased to hear them say “Just wear the damn mask and get the vaccine already!”
They still insist there shouldn’t be mandates though. So baby steps I guess. (Sigh…)
Qanon believes it’s rigged, because of course they do:
Well, if it were up to me, I’d spent an eighth of a billion dollars on breaking them, and then the other eighth on replacing them.
