Weird request, but my dog has a habit of grabbing her water dish and spilling it everywhere when she feels she’s being ignored, and it makes a hell of a mess. Can one buy dishes that might be too heavy for her to grab? She’s not a big dog-a Westie, so it doesn’t have to be too heavy.
Just get one of those wide based ceramic dog bowls that hold a liter or two. Westie’s are determined and strong, but she shouldn’t be able to lift one of the larger of these .
The slope sided version (like the dog bowl shape often seen in cartoons) would be even better, less to grip even if she had the strength to lift.
My cat does the same thing. He loves seeing his reflection moving in the water, so drags the bowl all over the kitchen floor, making a mess. I wouldn’t deprive him of this.
You could get something like this where the bowls are set into a recessed hole. Only dexterous fingers can get the bowls out!
Have you tried ceramic bowls? I can’t imagine any dog being able to grip and tote those around. Maybe knocking over a straight-sided one but probably not those really sloped-sided ones.

I used to have small plastic water bowls for the cats, but one of them liked to play in the water and would tip the bowl over and tap-tap-tap at the puddle. I got sick of mopping up the water, so I got a heavy ceramic water bowl for them.
I’m talking a BIG, heavy Rottweiler or Great Dane type of bowl.
The heaviest one we found is the toilet. They prefer it to any bowls we’ve ever put out for them (cats). They NEVER spill the toilet, though they’ve fallen in once or twice.
If it’s really a big problem, you could attach the bowl to a wide base, like a 2’ square sheet of formica. That way, not only is it heaver, but when they walk up to it, the dog would be standing on the base itself, which it make it very difficult to move.
I use ceramic ramikins for my fluffy cat, two of those were cheaper than one ceramic cat bowl. Check out the ceramic bakeware aisle, many are neutral whites for maximum decor blendability.
Thanks, I’ll try and see if I can’t find one. It can’t be too deep, because then the cats have a hard time drinking out of it.
I know it’s only water, but it’s a pain in the ass-and it sucks stepping on a wet carpet. At least it’s not as bad as when she was a puppy-she’d spill the water, and THEN push the dish around on the floor and bark at it.
I think these make the best pet dishes. They are available in a variety of sizes, are dish-washer safe, and can be found at most discount stores. Animals don’t seem to like to pick up ceramic dishes, and they don’t move or tip. A ring of silicone caulk on the bottom would even make sure it didn’t slip and slide much.
