I have a 13 year old nephew who’s sick in the hospital (likely be there for at least a week.) He asked me for good reading material - which to him is graphic novels.
I’m a bit behind the times in graphic novels. So can anybody reccomend some good titles to get? Something easy to jump into - rather than just a collection of an ongoing series. Bare in mind it has to be appropriate to a 13 year old boy. (No sex or extreme violence like “Sin City”, et. al.) I would prefer not to give him anything “Walking Dead” related as I have a general antipathy for the TV show.
“Mouse Guard”. It is sort of like a Watership Down, but with mice. It’s won several awards, and I enjoyed it a lot myself. The story is separated into individual graphic novels named after seasons of the year. It can be pricey, though, so maybe just start with the first one, and see what he thinks.
I hope your nephew gets better and leaves the hospital before he has the chance to finish the first book, though.
See if you can find a copy of a Spider-Man novel from 1986 called “Hooky”, depending on how the boy feels about Spider-Man and gloppy creepy roachlike monsters.
