Reccommend any good alternative/metal/whatever bands?

Testing… 1… 2…

Sweet… first post and I feel fairly qualified…

I didn’t see them mentioned, but maybe I didn’t look too hard: The Queens of The Stone Age are truly amazing. One of the best bands I’ve heard in a while, and they enjoy some mainstream success (a rarity in the music world, to be sure).

Beyond that, I’m hooked on Tool forever. The Used and At the Drive-In (though now defunct) are really the only punk music I can be bothered with… though they may not qualify. I can’t believe someone put the Refused down! I thought I was alone in liking them and their random screaming.

And is it wrong if I really do like Audioslave? (Rage Against the Machine + Chris Cornell = transcendent)

If all you’re concerned about is how heavy and fast the music is, then Anal Cunt, Extreme Noise Terror, and Regurgitate are among the group of bands who can compete with DEP. However, if you throw musicianship in as a criterion, then yeah, there’s no one who can touch 'em.

btw, I’m not recommending any of those bands. If you’re squeamish and/or not hard to offend, you shouldn’t look them up. But they do exist.

And what’s the name of that new album?

All right, I’m back at home now, with access to my CD collection and wish list. Get ready for a long list of bands. Some of these are metal, some are punk, and some are “whatever”. Most of these are from my collection; the rest are going to be eventually. It’s unlikely that anyone other than me will like all of them.

From my collection: A Perfect Circle, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, Alice In Chains, Amorphis, Annihilator, Anthrax, Black Sabbath, Brujeria, Clutch, Collide, Cradle Of Filth, Crisis, Deicide, Dimmu Borgir, Elastica, Elvis Costello, Inkubus Sukkubus, Iron Maiden, Jerry Cantrell, Joydrop, Judas Priest, Megadeth, Metallica, Morbid Angel, Motorhead, Nile, Nine Inch Nails, Old Man’s Child, Opeth, Pantera, Powerman 5000, Republica, Slayer, Spinal Tap, Static-X, The Talking Heads, They Might Be Giants, Tool, White Zombie, and Yngwie Malmsteen.

From my wish list: Dream Theater, Hecate Enthroned, Limbonic Art, Samael, Tura Satana, My Ruin, Incantation, Tree, Emperor, Six Feet Under, Iced Earth, In Flames, Napalm Death, Meshuggah, The Lunachicks, Sex Pistols, Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill, The Clash, The Dead Kennedys…

No, not really. There are more extreme bands even on DEP’s label.

Check out Cephalic Carnage and The Berzerker. Both are brutal as hell but not carbon copies of other bands. The Berzerker even uses techno beats under its blasting grindcore.

I f you are looking for something heavy and fast, hear Stratovarius - Speed Of Light. I like that song… and if all their songs weren’t the same, i would love that band

Wow, most suggestions are all across the board.

I’d suggest Mesuggah if you like complex, polyrythmic, time-changing, chaotic music. I prefer Chaosphere to their latest album, Nothing.

I’d also highly recommend Opeth - probably Blackwater Park although they do have a new one out I still need to get. This band plays melodic/ metal almost folk acoustic with clean and growling vox. Songs are rather long and unwind as more of a story than a proper song. Highly enjoyable.

Rock on,

Lockfist

Mesuggah is awsome. They have influenced so much of the hew metal but you rarely hear them mentioned. The new one only has one really good song, but it let me down bigtime overall. Chaosphere is definitely the best of the bunch.

Living Sacrifce “The Hammering Process” is one of my top 3 favorite metal albums. Check it out if you haven’t heard it.

The Misfits, Skrewdriver and Black Flag (pre-Rollins)

I have to second this. And third it. And fourth it.

I also have to complain that I didn’t get to see them last week, because I only found out they were at the Metro the day before the concert when I was attending a different concert with my SO.

This band is excellent. And Blackwater Park is great. Their lyrics are great (I have to have a dictionary with me to follow the story), and the whole story within this album is complex and intriguing.

By the way, they recently released two new albums. I still have to listen to both of them, but i’m looking forward on it.

As far as Opeth goes, I only have Morningrise, but I love it. Black Rose Immortal is one of my favorite songs ever, and I want to listen to it over and over again, even though it’s over twenty minutes long.

Early “Our Lady Peace” their newer stuff is more toned down.

How about The Melvins? They came out of the Seattle grunge scene, but I would rather call them heavy/death metal than grunge or punk.

Woah, Dopers, thank you very much for all your input! Theres waaaAAAaaay too many suggestions for me to thank you each individually for here, but there’re all greatly appreciated. I’m going to go and look in to as many as i can, ASAP.

And on a side note, I’m considering seeing Raging Speedhorn and Pitchshifter (separately, not together) soon. Anyone seen either live, and wish to voice an opinion?
