Receiving a copy of my credit report

Recently, I was denied credit on a loan application. Because of this, I am apparently entitled to a copy of my credit report from the reporting agency (Equifax).

The denial letter has no information on how to go about getting this, and the Equifax.com website is less than helpful. Every form I see has the $9.00 pricetag.

Has anyone done this before, and know the procedure for obtaining said report?

Thanks

If you are in the US, the denial letter should have the credit company that was questioned at the time of your loan application. It is my understanding if you are denied credit by a company they have to disclose your credit report for free.

The denial letter should have the name and address of the reporting agency. (Equifax, in this case.) Just snail mail them a copy of the denial letter, and a note asking nicely for your report.

Call Equifax. At least a couple years ago, the voice prompts were clearer.

My recollection was that you went through the paying path, and it was only at the very last chance that they told you to do something to get your free one. Try following the whole $9 path online, may be the same.

It has the info, basically says they don’t give free ones over the web, here’s the phone and mail address to get it.
