recent death trio: Gore Vidal, John Keegan, Robert Hughes

More effecting to me than the usual Michael Jackson/Ed MacMahon/somebody else, since I liked all three of these authors, even when I didn’t agree with them (Keegan ran to NeoCon, Hughes was too readily dismissive of all art made after his own generation, and agreeing with Gore Vidal on everything was always a mug’s game)

I guess I’m just glad that among the writers who had an impact on impressionable young me a quarter-centruy ago, Thomas Berger survives, probably due to his having been underrated; as well as reclusive (IIRC, either he or one of his characters has “THE LEPERS” on the mailbox of his rural home)
