Rechargeable battery questions???

2 questions:

  1. My cellphone is charged by the cigarette lighter socket in my car when the ignition is on. My wife says I should leave the phone power button on 24 hrs a day…and I think the phone should be off during night when there is no charge…Is my wife correct?

  2. When my double AA rechargeable battery charger registers green lites showing charge is complete, am I shortening the life of those batteries by letting the fully charged batteries remain in the charger with the green lights on continuously? or should I pull the plug when they are fully charged?

Thanks for the info in advance. As you can see I am not very familiar with the proper terminolgy in my above questions.

2 - yes you are shorting the live but by very little. If you pull them out they will self discharge. If your charger switches to trical charge or recharges at a low rate there should be no ‘real’ problem leaving them in (again a slight lowering of their life but very small).

There is no point in having a cell phone on if it is charged and you’re not there to answer it.

Charging, even trickle charging, a re-chargable battery is Not A Good Thing. I’ve seen quite a bit about laptop batteries dying premature deaths due to trickle charging.

So, charge it up, stop charging when fully charged, and turn it off it’s not going to be used.

That is, charging, etc. a charged re-chargable…
