I recently purchased that 16-ounce Little Dipper Crock Pot available for less than $15. It looks about the perfect size for a serving of morning porridge. I want to use traditional steel-cut Irish/Scottish oats as sold by McCann. Anyone have a recipe for this? How much oats, how much water?
I scaled this larger sized crock pot recipe down to fit in my little dipper:
1/2 cup oats
1 3/4 cup water
pinch of salt
Just before bed, combine oats and water in cooker. Let cook overnight, in the morning stir in salt and a little milk or half & half.
I like to add brown sugar to mine as well. You may have to play with the amounts of water versus oats as I did, depending on how thick or runny you prefer the end result.
I don’t know about the steel cut oats, I just use good ol’ Quaker.
Thanks, Stillwell. I suspect that the proportions for steel-cut oats is going to be different than for rolled oats. I might have to play around with it. My guess is that I need much less oats if I’m using steel cut.
