Recipes that sounded good on paper but did not turn out well

for whatever reason.

Tonight I decided to try Chocolate Raspberry Cookies. Seemed tasty, raspberries, melted chocolate and white chocolate chips. But even before half of them were out of the oven I tried one and then just ended up throwing them all out. They were bland bland bland bland bland. My wife doesn’t like her desserts to be to sweet and even she said they weren’t good.

Now, it’s very possible I missed an ingredient, but I’ve done that before in the past and am very careful not to do that.

Oh well, a lesson for the future. At least my Gingerbread Cake Roll came out ok. Not as pretty as the book, but I’m just happy I didn’t screw up the roll too much.

Really turned out awful - too salty, and the browning step was more like “blacking” because of the sugar in the brine.

I found a recipe for teriyaki pork chops (or maybe it was chicken) in a recipe book my mom gave me. I wanted to try it because it was very healthy … no adding in butter or salt or breadcrumbs or any of that nonsense.

Of course, all that unhealthy stuff is what makes food taste good. And this healthy recipe was pretty icky.

My wife made brussel sprouts with bacon and other things. Disgusting, of course, because it contained brussel sprouts.

I tried this coq au vin recipe from Alton Brown. It had almost no flavor and yet it tasted bad.

I had this mexican cookbook with a lot of authentic and really tasty reciped. But they had one recipe for Sopa de Lima which is a soup of lime and chicken and other things. It even went so far as to make it;s own chicken stock in the recipe. 4 hours later we tasted it. Worst damned soup ever. basically a big sour lime bomb with a weak ass hot chicken water broth.

My kids wanted to make pie, so being in a rush I grabbed a can of apple pie filling and a frozen Pilsbury pie crust from the store.

Unbelievably bad. A soggy, gloppy mess.

This Amish Lemon Pie from, IIRC, the Pie and Pastry Bible. God, it sucked.

I once did pork in a crock pot with pineapple and green beans. It was the nastiest thing ever that wasn’t pre-digested.

Years ago, I tried a recipe for chicken in white wine and tarragon sauce, trying to impress a guy I was dating. He choked down a couple of bites, to his credit. It tasted like chicken doused in vinegar and dirt. We threw it away and ordered Chinese food.

I got a big Southern Living cookbook one year as a gift and I was really stoked to try this recipe I found that had pear, bread, wine and I think cheese in it. I LOVE all that stuff. Ah, here it is.

I am not sure what I did wrong, because I remember having to buy all the ingredients, but it was awful. I was SO disappointed.
