Recomend a movie for me to watch based on a list of some of my favoite films.

I dunno, but the most recent one on his list is from 1968…

Yup. I’ve seen it multiple times!

YES! I would very much like to see this.

Haven’t heard of any of these movies. I will check them out. I’ve seen that Twilight Zone though!

Never heard of these films either. I have a lot to look up on Netflix.

Oh yeah! I’ve seen ‘Malkovich’ numerous times, before ‘Adaptaton’. Never heard of Tapeheads.

Never heard of ‘Brazil’, I’ve seen the rest. I liked them all except for ‘No Country for Old Men’. Though I remember being VERY tired at the time I saw it.

Of the rest I’ve seen:

Joe vs The Volcano
The invention of lying
Lars And ther Real Girl
Napoleon Dynamite
Almost Famous
Boys Don’t Cry
Freaks
Casablanca

I think that’s is so far. I think I skipped jsgoddess’ suggestion; Haven’t seen ‘Locke’.

Sci-Fi: Good, if the movie doesn’t break it’s own ‘rules’. How much emphasis Is put on the ‘Sci’ is important if the movie’s not using it as just a backdrop to tell their ‘Fi’. It’s difficult to explain, and different people have different ‘rules’ in suspending disbelief.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and WALLE* are both sci-fi.

Ooh, if you’ve not seen Brazil, definitely check it out. It’s a very twisty movie–messy in the best possible way, and it’s one of the bleakest visions of the future I’ve ever seen, but very funny.

The 2008 Director’s Cut thankfully dispenses with the opening narration.

Don’t pass on ‘Blue Angel’. It’s old, but falls into your quirky mold.

We have a very similar taste in movies.

I’ll second **Moon **and throw in **Memento **and Primer.

Since you listed Fargo, I will add one of the greatest movies of all time, not coincidentally by the same writers\producer\director.

Millers Crossing

Wonderful 1930’s atmosphere, great acting (especially from John Turturro and Jon Polito), violent and instantly quotable.

Good to know! I want to see it again now.

World’s Greatest Dad

Being There

Be Kind Rewind

Idiocracy

Just realized no one recommended Blade Runner. But you probably have already seen it.

And I’ll highly second The Year of Living Dangerously. One of my all time favorites.

If you liked Best in Show, check out A Mighty Wind.

Did anybody mention Vanilla Sky yet? If you liked Eternal Sunshine, you might like this too.

The OP and I have similar tastes.

+1 recommendation for Brazil, Primer and Moon

Gummo, if you’re really in the mood for ‘WTF did I just watch!?’

I don’t think anyone’s mentioned Twelve Monkeys yet. One of my favourite movies (and I guarantee you’ll like it, too!)

On the off chance you haven’t seen it yet, Ruby Sparks is right in your wheelhouse. It’s directed by the same team that directed Little Miss Sunshine.

And I’ll second or third both Memento and Moon.

I suspect you might like “Death to Smoochy”.

Pleasantville

Every time I stumble across this movie, I’m reminded how much I like it. It has some scenes that are stunning to look at, but then I also notice how rare it is for a movie to make a case in favor of knowledge and (for lack of a better word) corruption.

Stranger Than Fiction - starring Will Ferrell, but like Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love, not a typical movie for him. It’s light-hearted, but not an outright comedy; it has a lot of the “subverting conventions of film and storytelling” vibe of the first four films listed in the OP.

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a good comedy, as are Quartet, Shaun of the Dead and Trainspotting. You may need subtitles with some of the accents, though.

Need to check Netflix for ‘Blue Angel’ because it seems like Chefguy really wants me to see it. Brazil wasn’t on Netflix, nor was ‘Moon’ and I ended up getting it through Fios.

It was kickass.

I saw the trailer for Brazil, it looks mad.

Other’s I’ve seen

Memento
Be Kind Rewind
Idiocracy
A Mighty Wind
This Is Spinaltap
Need to see Death to Smoochy’!

I only saw it once, but I HATED ‘Pleasantville’.

I don’t remember why else I hated it so much, but I believe one of the kids stays in Pleasantville… and she has a mother on the “real world” that’s going to start and wonder where her daughter is.

I’ve seen ‘Stranger Than fiction’. It was ok.

Saw ‘Lock, Stock’

I should add

**Django Unchained **and **Pulp Fiction **to the list.

I’ll look up more.
