Recommenations for best Moon-landing shows to air Today, Moon-Day?

I suspect I’m very far from alone in considering that our arrival on the Moon is easily one of the most profound accomplishments in all of human history.

The thing that, in my opinion, makes the coverage of the 40’th anniversary of the first moon landing the most fascinating yet is the fact that NASA was able to use the most modern image enhancing technology to produce far clearer images of the event such that we can only now readily distinguish what the hell was happening there!

To pretty much everyone who watched it live, including myself, it looked as though it had been photographed through a lens filled with dusty milk. The light-weight, miniature TV camera technology of the day was nowhere near adequate for the job it was needed to perform, even with basic black & write cameras. Since JFK’s mandate didn’t allow NASA to wait until better television technology would reach even the bleeding-edge, super-expensive, custom-built stage, we had to make do with what could be done with small and lightweight cameras at the time, which was quite pathetic indeed.

If I recall correctly, the event was filmed, too, which would have been capable of much clearer images. But for whatever reason (perhaps my recollection is wrong and the actual first steps on the moon were not filmed), I’ve never seen the film of those events. Thus, the newly enhanced television footage will be quite a revelation.

The thing is, I’ve searched the DirecTV listings as well as TV Guide’s online schedule, and I can’t seem to learn what TV programming will include those newly enhanced images. I’d ideally like to watch a documentary-type program covering the entire event but one in which they replaced the original TV footage with the newly enhanced footage.

Does anyone know what programs/coverage would meet those conditions for today’s schedule? If not, what would you suggest as the best to watch?

The Discovery Channel is going to air the Apollo 11 episode of “When We Left Earth” again tonight at 10:00. This will apparently include the remastered moon footage.
