Pffft a P-38 is old and busted. P-51s are the new shit oooh yea.
I’d go for the Oxo – but my old cheap one with the rubber sleevelets on the handles works fine, and I eat a lot of beans from cans (not as good as from dry, but a man’s gotta make a living sometime). Yeah, I know, I think I’ve had about enough beans.
When I was living in a transient hotel before grad school up in Seattle, I used to smash cans of chili open against the wall. I was pleased to see Bukowski made mention of this last resort method somewhere (probably Factotum). Don’t do that, get a real one, and not those little tiny ones nobody can figure out how to use.
ETA I don’t like the Oxo ones – I cooked a Father’s Day with my sister on Friday and she had one of those – we didn’t use it, but I was playing around in her kitchen trying to find out where she hid my wine and I didn’t like the handles – too ostentatious.
I was looking for the OXO because of the great reviews on Amazon. But, I ended up getting this KitchenAid one. The OXO felt awkward and the knob sticks up too much to fit in my drawer.
If I had known they made handhelds this great, I would have stopped using my old electric one years ago.
BTW, if you’re looking for an electric with longevity, get a Black & Decker. I had it for 23 years and kept waiting for it to die, (so i could reclaim the counter space). it was still working when I donated it.
